Did my black badge course this weekend gone, and among other things realized that my 'cheapo' handloads werent the best idea.

124gn CMJ sitting on 4.4gn of Red Dot didn't make for the most comfortable shooting. Im no marksman (yet), but I was having a hell of a time. Alot of it is a need for me to work on my sight picture consistency, but I know a good part of it was the ammo.

For comparison at one point, and for my final two exercises, I switched out to American Eagle 115gn FMJs - marked improvement. I went from half A's and the rest C's to all A's.

So I want to figure out a good load for my Glock 17 - something that is going to provide decent, consistent accuracy and a manageable recoil. Any suggestions as to where to start? I have limited options as to powder, but was thinking Unique? Possibly Tightgroup? I have the Hornady reloading manual and these are options (among others) but would like to know what others have found works well in their Glocks

Intuition can be very misleading. You'll no doubt be getting some helpful coaching from guys who instructed you and other helpful shooters at the AMA. Problems with pistol shooting tend to be 90% technique 10% everything else. Ammo problems tend to affect function more than anything.

If you're at the "Spring Bang" this weekend, I'll probably demonstrate all the things you may be doing wrong  .

I'd like to go to the Spring Bang, but I just spent this weekend basically splurging on:

Gas to and from Halifax from Antigonish
A hotel for the night
Food, ammo, etc.
And the cost of the course itself.

In the end I spent over $350 and, since they dont do matches up my way (Truro) any more wont be able to qualify for my BB any time soon

I simply can't afford to take another weekend off work and basically spend all that over again. Disappointing but there it is. Right now I think I'll just work on drills, find an ammo combination my pistol likes and just work on fundamentals.

Whatever you use, spend the $100 on a Chrony. You'll need to know your power factor, to avoid surprises at Chrony Stages.

Almost any recipe can be great in a Glock - start with the "starting powder charge", and chrony it - work yourself up until you're running a few numbers above the power factor floor, then mass-produce the rounds.

My CZ currently likes 147gr, with 3.4gr WST. (the heavier bullets and smaller charges are good for controlling barrel jump). It's possible you'll have the same luck doing similar in a Glock.

End of next month, we'll be back outside at AMA by the airport. Plenty of people from long distances drive in for the 10AM start and have time to get home before dark. It will, in all likelyhood be the next match on the schedule anyway. ;)

AIM or other 147 with 4.1 or less of 231 @ 1.110 , will give the gun what it needs, for the rest HKMark has the best advise you'll get, the nut behind the wheel is always 90%+ of a prob.happy alfa
