Does anyone hunt ducks/geese with a red dot?

I've got a Win Mod 1300 deer combo that I use 99% of the time for deer outfitted with a red dot sight. I absolutely love the sight - the quick target aquisition is great. But for the once in a blue moon that I swap barrels to hunt waterfowl, I'd really rather not take the sight off and on. It's seems to me that the wide view offered by red dots would be ideal for waterfowl, but I've yet to see someone else doing it... I've patterned it at 25 yards and it seems to be bang on without adjusting the sights from zeroed at 60 yards for slugs.

Any thoughts?

My father has a single Cooey with an old Quickpoint scope. He takes it out for ####s and giggles once in awhile. Shoots well. I have noticed with the red dots it is difficult to see in the sky and against snow.

I think you'll find the red dot is more of a hindrance than a help for wing shooting. We had a guest on a goose hunt with one years ago, and he couldn't hit a thing. Once we took his red dot off, he did just fine. But you never know, it may suit you - the only way you'll know for sure is to try it.:)

Thanks All! I guess I should go try to break some clays at the Club. I'm just a little aprehensive about all the cool kids laughing at me ;)

you're no worse than that clamp-on window thing that we had back in the 70's - it was like a hose clamp with 3 sights on top- was supposed to give you perfect lead when pass shooting- when the bird lined up with the outermost bead or lump( the later ones were beads- the early ones were lumps or ridges) ,you fired, and when the shot got there supposedly the bird was over the middle bead- it didn't work

just use it for sluicing them while they are still on the water......let them land then shoot ........that should work......

i think that almost everybody has had a crack at this thing- i have a SINGLEPOINT from the 70's that's still got a nice bright red dot, but i found the dot to be too big- then weaver came out with a dual- tube thing, and then were the early aimpoints- it wouldn't surprise me if burris had one

Here's my thought - there's a reason you don't see bird hunters or trap and skeet shooters with red dot sights.

Maybe you just try it and see. if you haven't done any wing shooting before, try with the red dot and without so you have something to compare. I think it should be obvious to you once you try it.
