Red dot sight for 7600 carbine

is there any advantage to the bushnell trs-25 over the trophy with teh dual settings (red/green)?

As I said earlier, the trouphy can be purchased with selectable reticles...... The trs-25 is just a dot, which is fine if you like the dot.....

The trs-25 is smaller and lighter though.....

I believe Brad pointed out the trophy has a selective reticle....4 if I'm thinking of the right model 2moa, 5moa, cross and circle with a dot in the center. You can also select reticle colour red or green and 5 intensity levels in each colour. Green is for use in low light like turkey hunting off the roost in the woods. The red is for brighter lighting conditions. I found that on a bright sunny day even at it highest intensity I had trouble seeing the dot. But I have trouble with red on brown colour wise.
One thing to note with red dot style sights. You have to constantly be aware of lighting conditions. The reticle intensity has to go up and down with the conditions. Or, if you have it on low in bright sun you can't find the reticle...and if too bright in low light it will blow your night vision when you look into and out of the scope. I retired mine for a regular low powered scope, to much of a PITA to monkey with.

There is something to be said for KISS (keep it simple stupid) at least that Has been my experience

The trophy is the one that is selectable.... you are bang on in regards to the reticles...

I find the red dot fazter to get on target, 90% of our deer are shot while doing drives.

I have never used a red dot on anything, but have used 1-4 and 1.5-5 on my 760.

Q?? .... How would a red dot be faster than the two aforementioned scopes set on the lowest power setting?

I think our OP is trying to work his way through the whole "better to have a quick shot and quicker follow up shot ...rather than the more proven, take a bit more time and make one good shot" personally I went through the same phase. Hence my suggestion that he may be limiting himself and his 30 06 with the red dot.

My question is ......if you like the red dot then why the 30 06?

Why not?..... I have shot several deer within 20 yards with aight six and .308.... Did a fine job....

The red dots are great when you are the digger and your shot window is short and you need to get on target quick.....

No issues with a red dot per say Brad. Just pointing out that a low power scope may offer some advantage on yardages beyond more than the 20yrd running shot at bambi with the OP's 30 06. Hey if that is what he likes no issues from me. I am just questioning the combination. Caliber vs optic choice?

JMO (which if you ask my wife isn't worth much anyway)

Ps: speaking from my experiences as a dogger you can miss em just as easy with a red dot or a std scope Trust me!

Lol....

The low power scope would be a great dual purpose option..... I had a vortex 1-4 on my scout for that purpose.... One of those leupold Fire dot scopes would be the best of both worlds....

Where we hunt deer we run hounds and im usually dogging with the hounds, me wanting to use a red dot has nothing to do with getting off more shots. The use of the red dot is simply to get on target that much quicker as the majority of our deer are on the move and not standing still. As for making a good shot, I have been hunting 30 years and if I dont have a good shot then I wontbtake a shot at all. Chances are someone down the line will have a better shot than me.

Sorry Mike didn't mean to offend or imply any opinion on ethics that was not my intention. I just dont see how a red dot will allow any quicker target acquisition than a std scope. As you stated you've been hunting for 30 years.....I have as well, I know my 45 yr old eyes appreciate all the magnification they can get when pulling up on Bambi. If you like the red dot idea go for it. I did, I didn't like it but that was me.. Hope it works out better for you than me.

Ps: just so I dont come off as a hypocrite, I have hunted with hounds(owned the best damm deer dog in the county for some time) and done groups drives for all of my 30yrs of deer hunting.

The red dot draws your eye quicker than working out black crosshairs on a mixed background....... It's why I think a firedot scope would be the cats ass in our situation..... Best of both worlds......

I don't want to be the nozzle that brings up tactical stuff in a 7600 thread, but there is a reason pretty much all cqb rifles have red dots like shields and eotechs on them......

Sounds like fun. sitting in a stand for a week gets boring at times.

We run dogs as well and although I am too old and fat to dog, I use a fibre optic front sight and a Williams peep sights on my rifle . Most of our shots are less than50 yards. This combination works for me.

Red dots are awesome for fast accurate shots out to 100 yards, and probably further, although I've not shot with one much past that. Faster than a low power scope with a traditional reticle, for sure. My experience has been with Holosun and Vortex and they both work great for $200-300 optics. Tens of thousands of rounds fired with them and they rarely need any adjustments.

I just mounted the bushnell red/green dot on my 7600 carbine and im sure it will serve me well. I really like the multiple reticle options.
