I have heard soap and water, WD 40, mil-spec corrosive ammo cleaner, etc....
What do you use?
Never, ever, ever, ever put water down your barrel, any gunsmith will tell you that. There's no guarantee you'll get every drop out, and it only takes a drop to start some corrosion and pitting, and yes, even with chrome lined, since you'll have some copper/chrome = galvanic cell.

Normal gun solvents will do the trick.

use boiling hot water, it heats the barrel that evaporates the remaining water
