Hi everyone,
Here's a classic case of spending more money on a refurb project than the final result's value
Got a sporterized P-14 last year (Eddystone-made). Too bad the bore was not... exactly as described...
But anyways, I thought since it was my first P-14 project, it would be a good tutorial for myself.
Finding parts took time. First, I looked for wood parts. Brian (BDL ltd) was kind enough to find me something in good shape. The handguards are new, while the stock is used but only needed two minor repairs. It's the correct Eddystone style. He also had some metal bits for me - front band, middle band, handguard ring. Too bad the parts were ready for me when the dollar was at its lowest - so I ended up paying something like 40% more than I planned on these...
I also was missing the rear sight, and Sly_Old_Fox had one for me. Thanks SOF!
Then, Pblatzz dug deep in his parts bins and found the rear sight spring. Yay!
Jason (gunsmith in Ottawa) was able to remove the front sight guard which didn't want to experience life off the barrel. I think he's a wizard and uses magic spells to do what he's able to do, but that's another story. Thanks again Jason. I then was able to slide the handguard ring and front band on the barrel.
I stripped the stock, glued the two small cracks, fitted the handguards, did some reblueing, refinished all the wood, installed the rear sight; and a few other things. I'm happier than I thought I'd be once it's all done. I may not feel that way if it shoots all over the place, although after lots of cleaning, the bore did show some leftovers of rifling... We shall see!
Cheers,
Louis
