I have a Sig226 in .40 and just tried a bunch of reloads. I haven't used lead bullets before, only plated.
I noticed the lead lined the bore, and peeled off in strips while shooting. I also noticed a degredation in accuracy over a 200 round practice session, and I'm fairly certain it wasn't me (this time...
)
I made up some truncated lead 180gr DRG bullets on top of 4.4gr of Titegroup seated to 1.150", made on Dillon dies in a 550.
I had shot 155gr Wolf plated stuff on 4.1 Titegroup which didn't cycle perfectly, but it was more accurate.
You guys are way more experienced than me. What do you recommend for a good load for .40 cal that will be accurate and reliable? I have a match this weekend and I don't want to make more of the 180's if I can help it!!
It would be nice to use commonly available bullets.
I know every gun is different, but I'm tired of chasing loads right before a match. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone wants to comment on what will make a semi more accurate, I'd like to hear it (besides "a cylinder!"
