Reloading .45

My question wasn't what the OP asked for, it was why he asked for it. And if you are paying the same price for cast that you are for jacketed, you're getting hosed. I pay around $65.00 for 1000 cast .45 auto rounds.

unless your getting jacketed for cast prices

i went to double tap to buy some 45cal JHP's just for the fun of it even though i can cast for much cheaper. but i do like look better of jacketed and it's alot easier to buy them vs make and lube cast. they didn't have any (despite listing in stock on the site) and brought me a box of FMJ instead, i said no thanks and left.

To clarify, I was asking why FMJ because I shoot cast and I was wondering if I could look to improve accuracy by switching to FMJ.

Interesting that you can get the price down so much more by casting your own though... I'll have to look into that.

The problem is getting the lead, i was lucky enough to get some from cgn members and others given to me. Casting is the only way to go for cheap 45acp.

Accuracy wise no difference that i can see, im not a great shot by any standard but thats the case with fmj and cast

I now powdercoat my cast bullets but thats another story, examples in bullet making section.

Sorry to post and disappear. It was a training weekend for me, so no access to phone/internet. I'm not looking to cast anytime soon as I live in a small apartment (it's a miracle I've been able to set up for reloading in here). Purchasing cast wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, but I like minimizing my exposure to lead, hence why i'm asking about fmj or plated.

Local stores here have some components, but it looks like I can get a better deal from Henry at Budget Shooter so long as I make a good enough order to warrant the shipping.
