any way i found this one night thought it was good so i'll share it here

this guys blog has some rimfire reloading for the .32,.38,.41 rimfire that should work in just about any of the guns we shoot without shooting the old stuff right starpuss :p
 
Well I'll be darned, it does work, and the internet has provided proof. I see it being most successful in 32 cals, just because any larger and the darn things will still require indexing. I had the calculations for rim size and striking face overlap worked out a while back.... for most guns it should work on the 32's to have a centered hilty, as the rim still sits close to the edge all the way around.

Also, as my hit and miss memory serves, some of the multi barrel guns may have issues with this design, as their hammer's striking face is smaller than others. Probably still possible, just something to be aware of.
 
It is better if the cases being altered are recently made solid head. Otherwise, there is a good chance that the rim will come right off.
 
yea im looking for some winchester .32 short colt brass for a new toy on the way :)

i would not even think of stoofing any of the old .32 rifmfire the navy arms stuff maybe but not any of the stuff made before ww2 like the canuck ammo

i was going to order some reloadable brass from H&C in france but now i seen that i'll put off on that and just go this way im also going to be modifying a lee mold into a heel base for loading bp rounds we will see how that go's
 
Hmmm - I guess it depends on the mold, but how abouts do you plan on modifying a non-heeled mold into a heeled mold... unless it's a nose pour or undersized to the final bullet size?... or originally a hollow base mold? I'm more curious than anything else.

P.S. Not allowed to hint about new toys unless you let us know what they are/post pictures. Board rules ;)

no cant use a .32 acp

you need a .32 short or long colt case and a heeld base bullet unless you use round balls also if you go with anything thats more weight then the round ball i would use blackpowder real stuff not any of that fake junk(aka pyrodex and 777)

some aircraft tubing in the on the rear band thats jb welded in place cut and filed flush with the blocks on both sides the ream it out

the bullet heel should be around .298" and the rest about .311" the short colt brass od is .318"(saami spec) and id is about .296" you need a heel on the bullet as normal bullets will not seat and the bores on these guns vary some where about .302 groove dia and some where about .311-.314

no one should ever thing about using jacketed bullets in a antique (anything about pre 1899 or so not just canada antique classed guns)
 
Probably already mentioned on this forum, but there was an article in a recent Handloader magazine about modifying cases to shoot in old rimfire guns. It was pretty good.

More less I made a 3 piece swage. There is a nose piece which is roughly the shape of the nose and with a shaft on the end so that it can be driven out of the tube. There is a middle piece which is basically a tube the diameter of the bullet and finally a base punch which instead of being flat or square across the end has a rim on it vaguely like the skirt on a mini ball. I start with a conventional lead slug and drop in in the tube and insert the base punch and give it a couple of smacks with a hammer. Then turn it over and tap the bullet out backwards. I haven't used it in a while but I recall the base and nose punches sticking a bit and I suspect that if I lubed punches or the lead bullet, much of that problem would cease.

It strikes me that if I wanted to spend the money, buying a mold intended for gas checks would probably accomplish the same thing. One problem is that these home grown methods do not crimp the slug in place although for single shot rifles and shooting at the range, that is a minimal problem

well a gas check mold is on the small side being about .284" heel you need atleast a
.295" heel to fit nicely into a short colt case no real need to crimp on the rimfires or .32 colts a .298"-.299" heel with help alot
 
tactical870 here made some brass for the 32 rf which will accept the 27 Hilti, very neat stuff and works like a charm, also HC in France offers the 32,38 and 41 to reload. Less work with those solutions and not really expensive in my opinion.
 
HC uses a .22 bb cap blank or you could do what i do with those off set ones i take a .22 nail gun blank uncrimp it dump the powder then take my pipe cutter(im making a die soon more safer) and cut it to .22 bb cap length then fill it with bp and pack it down(i use some 4f in the cap)then i fill up the case and prime it

the nail gun blanks are cheaper then the bb cap blank(acorn blanks)

i only have 5 of the HC stuff there alittle of the pricy side and you have to index them

i can get 100 green .27 cal blanks for $14 100 .32 short colt brass for $19 and round balls are free

i already happen to have the lee mold i talked about before on here as i use it for cat sneez loads(squib loads) in .303 and 7.62x54r
