Reloading Instruction in Winnipeg?

I am new to reloading, and looking to make my shooting much more cost effective. Without a doubt, this is the way to accomplish that. I used to think reloading was just a huge headache, however, at the cost of factory loads these days who the hell cares what I think! Time to get off my butt and do it myself.

As much as videos are great to watch online, with this sort of thing I was really hoping that I could find someone experienced that can teach me the tricks of the trade. I much prefer the hands on approach.

Hopefully you will find someone to show you firsthand, but if not, reloading is a simple process that can be done one step at a time. Don’t let inexperience intimidate you from taking the plunge into reloading.
 
Try asking on mbhunters. I bought a set of dies from a guy there and got a few pointers from him. As well buy yourself a copy of "The ABC's of Reloading". It has step by step instructions with pics on each step for pistol and rifle separately. It's worth the $20-25 just to have something to refer back to. Got all the equipment already?

Maybe we should see if anyone in Winnipeg wants to run a class for all us reloading noobs.

I've been pondering reloading for a little while now, but living in a condo I just can't find the room.

I started on my own with the same apprehension. I found the ABC book answered almost every question. And what wasn't, I posted here and got the answers. I'm an hr out of the city or I'd have you guys over. Not that I'm an expert!
Can't say enough good things about that book. Bought it on advise posted on here.
After I bought a press, Kevin from WSS helped me get started with the rest of a beginners setup. Not sure if buying a "lower" brand starter kit would have a better idea from a $$ standpoint , but piecing it together has been enjoyable and has aided in the learning process.

That is a great idea thanks. I will check on Ebay and see if they have it on there. As for the equiptment, well I just purchased my first AR .223 Norky ( a great starter rifle I believe ), and it comes with a set of RCBS dies and that is about it. I need everything else....... Now I need to find a good source at a fair price and I am set! Any good places local in Winnipeg?

Well I think I know which book I will buy for reference by the sound of it. Minus dies, can you tell me how much your set up costs were including first round of brass, powder, etc?
 
PM me. I'm not an expert by any means, as I have been reloading for about a year to date. I load 9mm, 10mm, 45 ACP, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 30/30, 338 Win Mag, and .223 for the same Norc M4 you no doubt have.

Might be able to help you out this weekend, or in the a couple of weeks. Otherwise it will be mid July since me and my wife are having our second child at the end of this month.

If your not in any hurry I'll help you out. Just let me know. I could be convinced to help out perhaps one more, but no more than that since my reloading room is on the small side.

I'm far from a guru but I've been reloading for a several years. I load handgun calibers and lots of .223 for my AR. Also have done a fair bit of .270.

I'd be willing to put something on. Only issues are location and equipment. My setup is far from portable and doing something at my place is out. If you guys can figure a location with a press we can probably find a date and time that works. I'm close to Wpg.

Another great offer. It's nice to see that we are still living in "Friendly Manitoba". Let's think on this one a little, another idea is emerging, or perhaps we can get the logistics worked out and get a good sized group together under your tutorial. I don't have a press yet, so I'm useless in that regard.

If we can get a number of names to start a list over say the next month or so, maybe there is a site sponsor or otherwise on here that can do a bit of a clinic for us and in exchange, we can throw a pile of business their way. Seems like a win/win to me....:rockOn:
 
Depending on scheduling I'd be interested too. Maybe this could evolve into a group of guys to do a bulk buy from Higginsons too...
 
I have found that doing a standard by the book reload is as simple as following the manual.

But I could use some instruction on how to take it to the next level, eg. how to find the optimal seating of the bullet for my rifle, and stuff like that.
 
Winnipeg Reloading Clinic/Seminar

Hi folks,

I have to say I am very encouraged by the number of responses. I was hoping for even a single response, but I see now that there are quite a few others out there in and around town that would also like to learn a trick or two. I am so encouraged in fact, that I think I will sink my teeth into this and make it a pet project of sorts over the next few weeks. I can't think of a better way to get a fresh group of like minded shooters together and make some new shootin' buddies! I am just getting back into things this year after many years off myself, so I would be very pleased to make some new friends in the shooting sports kingdom.

I was thinking that next week would be better for me as I am swamped with work at the moment. However, I think I can make some calls next week and speak to some shop owners, etc and see who may have some interest in expanding their local market so to speak by educating some new reloaders.

If you can all leave this with me for the next week or so, I will start a new thread when if/when I can get something organized at least in concept, and anyone interested can chime in and let me know if they would attend so I have some rough numbers to work with when contact suppliers, etc. We can keep a running total on this thread if that works. Anyone with anything to add in terms of ideas, I'm all ears.......

In the meantime, if anyone can send me PM's with shops carrying reloading supplies in and around Winnipeg I will be sure and contact them all.

As for location we could probably rent the clubhouse at the range in Selkirk. That might be a place we could do some load testing on the range too.
I have a chronograph, Giraud trimmer, RCBS trickler/scale and a couple other toys I could bring out. The thing missing is a portable press setup.

As for timing I am swamped for the next 3 weeks. Again I'm not a guru by any means so don't expect a clinic the quality of a Hungry M14 clinic. I do know a few tricks though.
