Reloading Instruction in Winnipeg?

Thanks guys for this thread, I am excited and hope to meet like minded fellow shooter. Count me in, let me know when and where we are planning to meet.

It sounds like an interesting evening. I have a semi-portable cheap Lee press. I have it mounted on a piece of steel that can be clamped to a table, etc. I've been loading for about 10 years for everything I shoot, but could always learn a little more.

If you have been reloading for 10 years there's probably not much I can teach you. However you might have some knowledge to pass on.
That setup sounds perfect.
 
I use a Lee Breechlock mounted on a 2x6, and clamp it wherever I want with C-clamps too.
Very versatile setup. All you need is a Table for an hour or two and away you go.

Hi folks, I mentioned last week that I would contact some dealers and attempt to organize some instruction to benefit green horns and perhaps even those with some experience. Unfortunately, my work commitments and the many changes currently taking place at work are eating up the lion's share of my time. As a result, I barely have time for anything else. I would still love to attend a get together if one is arranged and can offer some assistance if needed, but leaving it to me right now to get done would not result in anything getting arranged in a timely manner. Any others interested in putting something together can count me in for attending, so long as I can get away from work! Sorry to those who may have been waiting on me.....

My original offer stands to show a few (1-2) guys how to reload. I'm no expert, and have only been doing it for about a year, but no kabooms so I must be doing something somewhat correctly.

I'm tied up with work and a new baby coming in the next week or so, but will be on holidays the last 2 weeks of July. I could probably setup something at my place then.

Well I went back on the posts and counted 9 guys that sounded interested. This could work if everyone were willing to shell out a couple of bucks. I really didn't want to become an organizer for this but maybe it wouldn't take that much to setup. I'm throwing this out there as a feeler...

If we had a portable press we could go anywhere - that piece I don't have.
I could supply the stuff we need to actually reload some rounds for just the costs of what the stuff costs (cases, primers, powder).
For a location we could inquire about renting the clubhouse at the range in Selkirk and maybe use the rifle range to test fire some rounds. If I recall correctly it's about 50 bucks for the clubhouse for a day. Not sure how using the range would work. I would have to verify all this with Selkirk and the event would need to be approved first.
I also know a retired guy who knows a lot about reloading for long range precision shooting and I might just be able to rope him in. This is one area where I could learn some stuff too.

Would guys still be interested if each guy shelled out like $20 a person to make this happen and travel to the range in Selkirk? Anyone else a member at Selkirk?
 
I'm still game for a class, but I need a little more time here to finish sandbagging, then I would be willing to do the following.

Supply a press, scale, powder measure and lee trimming tools.( they all need to get moved out anyways.)

I have all the components needed to reload .270. New brass, primers, H4831 powder and 130 grain bullets. I have loaded rounds in incremented powder weights to check for pressure signs, but have not had time to test fire them.

It could be a "show how its done" and then shoot some loads and show how to test for a load that provides the best grouping in my rifle (It's gotta move out also, so why not bring it along too.)

All we need is a place and a mentor.

I think the idea of a seminar at the Selkirk range is great. I am a member there. I do know that it is very busy on weekends there. I have made my press portable too and reload for 6 calibers. The idea of having it at the range is not totally necessary though. If there were as many as 12 people attending I think the session would take at least 6 hours. The advice given earlier about reading up on it should be anyone's first step even before a seminar. The abc's is a good one as is the Lee reloading manual and some of the others. Two at a minimum. Then the tips and tricks will make a little more sense and quicker too. Depending on the timing of course I might be able to help some too.
I wonder if anyone that is a member there does that sort of thing occasionally on behalf of the club?

True. We could do a classroom only sort of thing.
Just thought it would be nice to play around with a chrony and get some groups shot to show difference primer brands and C.O.L. makes. I guess really all we'd need is a place where we could shoot 100 yards to do that. Anyone live on a farm close to the city? That rules out using my AR which has become my test bed for ammo development though. No biggie.

I would also love to test fire some rounds at a range, but I am up for either. Just bought my first AR still stuck in transit with CP. I was hoping I could also get some instruction on that as well.....

Is Selkirk an indoor or outdoor range? What is the max calibre they allow? I am interested of course in the .223 and gateway club where I am a member does not allow rifle rounds over .22 so I will need to visit some other ranges for that.

Selkrik is an outdoor range; 200m rifle range and 50m pistol range. Trap shooting on Wednesday nights. There is also a club house there. I think the rifle range is templated for everything except 50 BMG (so .223 is just fine).
 
To clarify, what I meant was that it might be difficult to get a weekend time at Selkirk where you could also use the range. I will fire them an email and see if it will work rather than just speculate. Later.
