Federal brass. It's just the blue crap they have around the factory primers.

They definitely didn't get wet at any point.

c-fbmi, which RCBS bench mounted priming tool do you use? I think 'A' is discontinued.

 
Pulled the bullets and deprimed the cases. Heres what the primers look like:





And finally, I took 'em outside and whacked 'em with a hammer...



So it looks like the primers themselves weren't the issue.
 
I've had this happen to me.
Offset firing pin, not so sensitive primers from a not so good batch (perhaps the anvils were not centered properly either... cue in CCI) = FTF
fortunately Ruger replaced the bolt no questions asked. It only took one year (cue in Gravel Agency....)

The rifle has always went bang with factory ammo, so i don't think the firing pin is the culprit. I might be able to get to the range next week to try some more reloads, but it's the last week of classes for this semester so I might be too busy for another week or two... im petty sure my priming tool was to blame because the rest of the box of primers had no issues in my 303...
 
mine worked just fine with factory ammo too
it's not just the firing pin but the pin, bad primer batch and karma :)
CCI will never admit bad batches
 
My first reaction is that you may be oversizing your brass. Try turning you seating die out so the brass has a snug fit in the chamber.
 
This just happened to me today but with my .40 reloads using Remington SPP's.
Five primers failed out of 160 reloads.
 
Went to the range again. 19 rounds, 1 misfire... Maybe the primers are to blame after all? The primer strike does look a little bit weak compared to the round above it, but doesn't look any different than the round to the right which went off without issue. (misfired round is the bottom left corner)



My rest wasn't as good as last time (the range was kinda busy so hunks of wood for the front rest were in short supply) but I did manage another sub-moa group at 0.848 inches, and another at 1.083", the rest were 1.27, 1.35, and 1.5 inches. One group was too crappy to even bother measuring, it was well over 2" but I know I pulled one shot.

 
What's going on with bottom right case? Upside down primer?

Also looking at some of the other primers, some seem to be flattened? Maybe just a bad pic to go along with my phone screen. But the edges look flattened.

Yeah, a primer is upside down. It somehow flipped in the hand primer. Thats why I had 19 rounds, not 20. lol

As for the primers, they do look flatter than the unfired primer, but I think thats normal? Fired factory ammo looks the same, so I sure hope its normal...
