Reloads didn't fire??

OP - All of those strikes look very light. How do they compare with the strikes on factory ammo? A poster above has speculated that you are oversizing the brass. In essence, the case is a bit too short for the chamber and doesn't allow the firing pin to strike the primer deep enough. Do you know how to test for that?

The winchester are factory ammo, and they look the same to me?

A misfired primer shouldn't look like one in a fired case. The properly fired one is the end product of getting booted in the ass and formed by 60,000 PSI, until it fits the firing pin like mom on dad. The dud should be a caved in mess, or it never really got hit hard at all.

I staged a misfire for you, with a live primer and empty case for a direct comparison to one of my normal loads.

The bottom was the "misfire"?

Because my primer is obviously not getting hit that hard - I would have thought a primer strike that hard was too much?

tahts what my dud looked like too. Forgot powder in a case, pulled the trigger, nothing, recocked, nothing, re cocked nothing. Unchambered the round and well, the primer was caved dafaq in.

I don't think there is such a thing as too hard. This one is a from a Remington 700, hitting a 215M.

So do you guys think I've got a problem with weak primer strikes then? It's never had an issue in 200ish rounds of factory ammo...

not going to speculate on your miss fires but I will say I have loaded up some rounds with 20/25 year old CCI primers and they all went off. 2 year old primers are not old in comparison. It might be you got a bad batch or they were contaminated some how.
With primers it can be really hard to say.

I don't think it's the fact they are two years old that's the issue, just thinking maybe me and Varmit both had misfires due to a bad lot or something.

That would sort of indicate that your rifle will fire Winchester and Federal primers. Doesn't prove anything about CCI primers which are known for their hardness.

I may have missed it, but what make and model of rifle?

What brand are these primers dogleg?

Rifle is a Savage axis in 270.

How did you clean your brass? If sonic cleaned or wet tumbled the brass has to be completely dry before primers are set.

They were washed months ago. Like, last summer at some point.
