Hi there; Here's the issue at hand.. Last weekend while at the range I was shooting my Rem 597 semi LR .22 and I had a shell casing rupture.. Don’t know if that’s the proper terminology however it was extremely unpleasant and scared the shi*! out of me. Consequently when this happened it blew out the extractor and other misc parts.. I was using the factory 10 shot mag with federal ammo bought from a Canadian tire. Usually I order away from Bass Pro in Toronto however the package did not come in time... Anyways, I also purchased an after market 30 shot mag to go with it.. What I have found is that this gun does not like any other ammo then the real expensive stuff and since day one has jammed after about 5-7 shots every time.. Also the accuracy of the thing is terrible... So I sent it away to a gun smith to repair the damage however after the issues with the gun, I am so displeased with it that I want to sell it and buy a 10/22... After reading the threads it seems like this should have been my first choice...

Hmm, My 597 outshoots my 10/22 anyday, and its really reliable. Especially with the facory 10 round clip, no jams. And I shoot CCI Blazers and normal winchesters all day.

I have sometimes has a miss feed (not actually feed) on the 30rd, but after a bit of filing, the mags guide is now moving freely.

Have you tried some Lapua Club ammo? its SUPER accurate and feeds great.

That's really weird and unfortunate man!
My 597 has seen over 500 rounds now, and I have had one jam using Federal 36 gr. hollow points from the 525 bulk packs. It shoots incredible groups with that ammo, and it's almost the cheapest going.
You may have just ended up with a dud of a rifle. If it's still under warranty try taking it back.

try the search bar, there are numerous threads on the 597, Im sure you should be able to fix any problems! Mine also outshoots my 10/22 any day, .
I find mine likes rem thunderbolts best!

I have many thousands of rounds through my 597, works like a charm, prefers Mini-Mags, Rem Subsonics and Federal Bulk packs. Stingers shoot very poorly...

.. Also the accuracy of the thing is terrible...

jf I have the 597 HB target version in 22LR. Bought it brand new and the accuracy was terrible. Stripped the rifle down and removed the barrel for a detailed cleaning and inspection and I found the barrel throat worn and pitted. Similar to the barrel of an older milsurp rifle that had shot thousands of rounds of corrosive ammo. It was in the first 2 or 3" of the throat area. The bore was clean and bright, just badly pitted and the rifling was poorly cut. I'm assuming it was bad steel or poor machining. Brought the gun to the local gunsmith who in turn sent it back to Remington and they sent me a new rifle. I then stripped the new rifle down and checked the bore first thing and it was perfect. Took it to the range and bingo, shot like a charm. One of the most accurate semi-rimfires I ever shot. Anyhow the point I'm trying to make is to have the gunsmith or yourself check the bore very closely, especially the throat area, and you'll have to remove the barrel for this. If I got a bad rifle, then there may be others. By the way, I bought my first rifle from Wholesale Sports and the box it came in had been opened and retaped, so they must have tried to dump that rifle on someone else:mad:.
