I took my 5R out to the range again today.
I decided to shoot some 168 grain Federal target ammo that I had left over. So I take a shot and it's dead centre. No need to re-zero after the Fusion 165 grain. A nice smile on my face but I know better than to hope the one shot from a cold non fouled barrel means anything. So I shoot 2 more. Same hole, with the third shot just slightly extending to the left. I couldn't believe it.
Well I should have known better than to look at the target. Because I pulled the 4th shot slightly left
. @!#@%$@$. Still touching and slightly overlapping the previous 3 shots. I was just too surprised and got excited about what I was seeing. The 5th and last shot was right in the middle. The 4th shot opened my group up to .5 moa or just a tiny below.
5 shot group at 100 yards, almost no wind. From a front bag rest and rear bean bag.
I still have the Lapua 167 grain ammo to try out. I'm seriously considering buying another 5R just because I'd like another stock one for when the day comes that I shoot out the barrel on my current rifle. Again so far the best out of the box rifle I've bought.
I may get the trigger weight brought down to 3 pounds. A bit lighter and it would be perfect. Still very nice with no travel or creep and a very crisp let off.
One other thing to consider. I'm actually fairly new to this type of shooting. I don't have a lot of trigger time behind a rifle. I had some good instruction for the basics but that was for 3 position shooting not accuracy shooting and it was mostly based off my pistol and shootgun training. The fact that a relative newbie can get these results from a stock off the rack rifle, is astounding and very rewarding to shoot.
I'll try and get some pictures of the targets. I'd like to wait though until I've tried out the Lapua ammo as well.
To be continued......
