After market triggers certainly solve the issue, but some of them are pricey. Rifles of more recent manufacture have a different trigger than the one criticized in the NBC piece. My M-700 target gun wears an expensive Jewel trigger becasue that particular rifle's factory trigger refused to adjust to my satisfaction. My M-7 on the other hand wears the old style factory trirgger which has never failed to operate properly even though its on it's second barrel, and has a let off equal to the Jewel.
My solution is to have the trigger properly adjusted, and ignore the safety. I chamber a round when I'm about to shoot, and unchamber, should it become apparent that I will not shoot. That effectively resolves any issue which might exist with the older 700 triggers.
