Rem 700 Varmint vs Savage Model 12 .223?

My rem 700 tactical 1:9 twist shoots 70 gr Berger with great results, 400-600 yards is easily achievable. The 20" barrel makes for a nicer varmint rifle as well. The only thing I felt was a must to change was the hogue stock.

Naw, I think we just need a "childish gear snob" forum. Yours and his posts are neither valid, nor appreciated. Notice you're the only one who has come to his defense? Wonder why that might be? If all you want to do is circle jerk all day about Nightforce this, and Accuracy International that, and insult anyone who doesn't fit in your narrow minded view of the sport, I suggest you go somewhere else. Custom high dollar machines are beautiful, and I wish I could afford one, but your comments are like saying that at Subaru BRZ isn't a sports car because it isn't as good as a Ferrari. Grow up dude, seriously.

here here! :)

elitism can go pound sand.

i guess ill chime inhere as well..

i have owned a savage LRPV, and i can say im part of the "elite gear snob" crew. I can honestly say dollar for dollar the LRPV shot just as good if not better then my custom rifles (yes the customs were/are over all better, but at 3x the cost), i bought my LRPV 1:7 when they just hit the market for 1400 shipped. and it was worth every penny, as far as accuracy goes. while it is marketed as a "long range precession varmint" rifle it would definitely hold its own for any beginner or intermediate target shooter. with 75gn AMAX, it shot 1/2-3/4" groups at 300yds, and even with my ####ty wind reading for a .223 bullet, sub 1/2 MOA out to 550-600 was easily achieved. no doubt if i had the chance to push it out further on more then the 1 occasion, i wouldn't have been disappointed

i sold mine, as the left port / right bolt and stock configuration just didnt suit me, but that will be a personal preference, like any other rifle. i see them pop up in the EE now and then, im not sure if your target price range is the mid 800s, or not, but if you can scrape up a few more bucks , i have no problem recommending one for some one looking to get into it.

Wow, never mind the gear snobs. I love watching my wife put those types to shame off the bench...

Anyways, I have a Remington SPS TAC that I really enjoy and have shot lots. It took some work to get the groups I do with 70 gr. Bergers, but it is a very good gun.

I have only shot a couple savage 12s, but I honestly prefer the features they come standard with. Much smoother gun with better fit and finish. Don't get me wrong, I like my Remmy but my next will be a Savage.

For the informal type of shooting you mention, might I suggest either a model 10 precision carbine or Predator. The model 12s are quite heavy to haul to a coyote stand.
