Rem 700p 5.56?

Well if its in .223 then shooting 5.56 threw it is not a good idea.

I purchased my Rem700P in .223 after I had sold my AR-15. I had fired about 2000 rounds of MilSurp 5.56 in my AR with no problem. I had 1000 left, and when I purchsed my 700P i figured I would have lots of plinking ammo. THe first 10 rounds I fired were no problem, the next one caused some sticking of the bolt, and then another stuck the bolt so hard I could barely get it open. After that 990 rounds of Milsurp 5.56 went on the exchange for a bargin basement price. You may be able to get away with 5.56 in a 700P bolt gun, but for me it was not worth the risk.

Word from the wise....I have a 700P in 223/556 and a 700P in 762/308 I have 'launched' hundreds of rounds of Winchester, Remington, American Eagle, Wolf, IVI, South African, Portugese and American 'ball' with NARY a hiccup.......

If you can find any 'rem/umc' 55 gr fmc(j) then buy as much as you can, my rifle will shoot sub 1" @ 100 all day long, winnie white box and american eagle are all around 2-3" same groups with surplus....But every rifle will shoot differently !!!!!

Please point out where I can purchase 5.56 reloading dies? There must be a bazillion pictures on the internet of .223 rifles that have blown up shooting 5.56 surplus ammo, please provide links.

I tend to agree, I have shot 5.56 out of my mini 14 with no problems.
I do how ever think if your rifles head space was tight it could cause an over pressure.

In my experience with the LE line, I have the LTR not the P but I imagine they have pretty similar tolerances.

My LTR is extremely picky on brass and I can imagine 5X56 to be a bit of an issue.

When I reload, unless my brass is sized perfectly the bold won't close. It has a very low head-space tolerance

this is an LTR in .308 though so this may or may not be useful.

Heck, I'd much rather take my chances with 5.56 vs .223 than trying to interchange 30-30 with .32 special

.30-30 in a .32 Special is just too funny. Buddy couldn't figure out why he couldn't get in paper at 100 yards, it was shooting OK last year. In fact he couldn't keep 5 rounds on a 3 foot square target at 25 yards.

mine is .223. and I love everything about it but the weight. and the difference is that you can shoot .223 in a 5.56 safely but the pressure created by 5.56 in a .223 rifle can cause problems. I wouldn't fire 5.56 in a .223 but .223 in a 5.56 if fine.
