Ok, im thinking about selling my 710 (.270) this summer and upgrading to a SPS Varmint. But i have heard so many bad things about it, though i have never had a problem with it. I have fired approx 200-300 rounds through it. I have shot up to 400yds and it shoots consistantly. The only thing is a scuff on the barrel just in front of the scope. I bought it 3 years ago and is otherwise in great shape, what do you think i could get for this rifle.

Remington 710

The Remington 710 is a good gun and is in the cheap catagory of affordable guns. I believe they stopped making the 710 and have changed to something else. They can't all be Remington 700's or Winchester Mod 70's, so they produced the Cooey of the big bore guns. They work and shoot straight and that's all they were made for, and a beginner can afford it.

You could probably get $200 to $300 depends if there is a scope with it. I sold both of mine for around $300 shipped with a scope.
I have been buying and selling guns for 35 years and had a few thousand guns go through my hands. The 710 wasn't the worst gun I ever had, it works and that's what counts. If you want to go to the range and pound a few thousand rounds through it like a target shooter don't buy it. If you only want something to knock down a deer once a year it's OK for that.

I have had two over the past few years and didn't have any trouble selling them. Thay have cheap parts and not too many of the guys are crazy about the trigger guard. The trigger system has some palstic in or around it.

They are tough, I saw one last fall that the owner had the misfortune of loading and firing a 308 into a 270. The gun stayed together and welded the bolt head into the barrel. It must have been tough it stayed together under the pressure and the 308 went out the barrel. It was a total write off and the only thing that survived at a glance was the mag and the stock.
I wouldn't be scared to own one again.

the biggest problem with the 710 is the price. For the price of the 710, one could get a mossberg atr or stevens 200, and almost a wby vanguard or savage.

So, when faced with all these options, one must ask why the 710 - which is clearly the worst of the lot - isn't priced at about half of what it is.

The value to me would be near nil. The only thing that would compel me to even consider buying one of these guns would be morbid curiosity.

You could try asking 3/4 of what you paid for it in the EE, and drop $20 of the price every couple weeks till it sells. Hopefully this happens before you get to negative values ;)

tough sell. probably half what retail is.? I'm sorry. I never heard of anyone selling a used one. Mostly guys just pitch them in the bush out of frustration.............

But seriously, you have been beat up enough. Half retail might be a reasonable price. ?

wow so many experts..

Sounds like everyone has a comment on the 710... How many of you keyboard experts have actually owned one.. Not the " my best friends ex-roomates , mothers half brother had one and it broke, so I think it's a piece.. but truely owned one. I'll bet 90 percent of the "keyboard experts" have never owned one and are going by what some "other " keyboard expert had to say.

I think the Jaguar is a piece of S**t....although I've never actually owned one.

You don't need to own one to know it's ####. Handle one for 10 seconds at the gun shop.

I don't need to stick my hand into the fire to know it's hot...
