Rem 760 vs. 7600

Wow, blast from the past!
Pumps aren't banned so far, I beleive the 35Whelen's are rare and worth more then most other calibers.
You might want to start a fresh 34 Whelen 7600 thread...

Methinks the big difference between a 760 and a 7600 is in the bolt lugs. The 7600 bolt lockup is apparently simpler and more reliable. I suspect that the real reason for the change, though, is likely because the 7600 was cheaper to make.

No pumps are not on the banned list. Please let me know if you are looking to sell your Whelen.
I should never have sold my 308 that this post was started about. Gave it to him for what I paid for it in 82

very slight differences, if any. I'd go for the 760 as it doesn't have the monte carlo stock that the late model 7600's have. Older style fits better.

My dad has a 760 and I have an early edition 7600 and laying side by side there is no difference other than the scope base holes have different spacing.
there is a huge difference between the two everyone has a comment even if it is wrong
i will be that guy for calling this out
the reason the 760 was discontinued was because the locking system of 9 tiny locking lugs was probmatic they would cause chatter marks inside the reciever on the guide rails and in the bolt recess if shot a lot to the point it would causes malfunction .
also a different attachment system on the forend assembly
the 7600 has 3 large locking lugs more like bolt action rifles stronger bearing surface
