Just bouncing thru the net and hit the wholesale site. The Rem 783 is on sale for $365.00...and I think( don't quote me on that one) there is also a $40.00 rebate on top of that.270,30-06,308 and 7 rem mag listed at that price..just thought I would let you fine folks know.

T'aint dem dere disposable Remlingtuns?

Ya and no. A guy brought one out to the range last year. Had a cheapo scope on it. I bore sighted it in for him. Then he took some federal fact. ammo and proceeded to dump 5 under a inch at 100 yards. I couldn't friggen believe it. He had just bought the rifle that morning. If it wasn't for the fact I just bought a WBY S2, 10 minutes b4 posting this I might have grabbed one in 06 to play with......oh wait...I just might grab one of them also. For everything else...there is mastercard..

bought one in 308.
had no problems getting it down to moa with handloads. but could never get it sub-moa no matter what combination of powder and bullet was used. Sold it as it was only a plinker to me.

The noted price is "fair". I bought 5 dozen of these back in late 2015. I remember the wholesale price (which is why I say the price noted is fair).

These have sold well. They are an "ugly" rifle if you look close - fit, finish and Rem 783 will probably never occur in the same sentence.

BUT they do shoot as well or better than rifles running three times the price.

I see these as an Axis with a better trigger that usually sell for a little less than even the Axis.

I guy I hunt with bought one of the compact models in 243 (he's short, short arms, the 12 1/2" pull fits him well). He put 4-12X40 Bushnell XLT on it, grabbed two boxes of shells and walked out of the store for just on 525 bucks (taxes in).

He proceeded to iron it out a bit (with federal blue box 100 grain soft points) and within an hour or so you could cover his 100 yard groups with a toonie.

Ugly rifle, yes, metal looks like it was finished by dragging it over a gravel road at high speed, yes, bolt a little sloppy, yes, stock made from plastic pop bottles that were rejected from the recycling bin, yes, but for 500 bucks, including ammo, it will out shoot many....

Ammunition is so expensive if you shoot it in any real quantity that the price of the rifle isn't such a big deal as some make it out to be. If you can afford to shoot enough to get a good amount of practice, you should have the $ for a decent rifle. My idea of a decent rifle is the Weatherby Vanguard.

For the price they are what they are...a beater, truck gun, crawl thru a slough and blast beaver type of rifle. Or even for a person on a tight budget. If I was to slug one thru a mudhole I really don't care what it looks like, just as long as it works. I have way fancier rifles...but I sure aint gonna take em out and thrash em!! Or if you want a cheap play with winter rifle....eh they would probably work fine also. Not every one can afford a WBY,even a low end Vanguard. Its like the diff between a volkswagon and a Porsche..both will get ya where you want to go,just depends on how flashy you want to be getting there!

I've had a camo 30'06 version for a couple years now, $299 at the time from Wanstalls and there was $60 in mail in rebates I took advantage of. I really can't complain about the rifle too much, other then with a solid top receiver why in the name of dog did they make the mounting holes so damn far apart? Makes no sense as it makes mounting scopes more of an issue then necessary.
What I like about it:
Trigger is quite good, much better then the Axis, very clean break.
Lock time is very short, the firing pin travels much less then an Axis (and wayyy less then a Vanguard) and is about the same as a 700.
Cocking is smooth, bolt stroke is smooth.
Stock is aluminum pillar bedded, and the forend is stiff, it's a good cheap stock that keeps the barrel free floated, though not very "grippy".
Mags are good and won't fall apart or break on you like Axis mags, and they are $30 vs $50 for Axis mags.
Recoil pad is good quality.
Trigger guard is ugly as hell, no getting away from that.....
For accuracy, 165gr Speer BTSP shoot under an inch at 2800fps consistently.
I liked it enough that I recently got a 7mm mag version...everything seems just as good as the first one, still need to shoot it though.

Yeah, I saw those, thought about matching one with the Trophy 4-12 Bushnell Trophy XLT's that you can pick up at Walmart for $199. All in, a package for $525. WSS has a pretty good price on the 26" Vented rib barrel Rem 870 express with wood furniture as well. Not a super magnum, but for $359 with free shipping it's a pretty good deal.

Those trophy's are $149 at Tradex, they have some elites at $225 as well.

While still an entry level rifle the Rem 783 is a much better rifle than the earlier model 710 and 770. I wouldn't even recommend a 770 to someone I disliked. Anyone looking for an inexpensive rifle should check them out the 783 before they buy. The clip has metal lips and feeds very well and replacement clips are reasonably priced.

that price is still too high for a 783.

Then you better not look at the 2016 shelf price of rifles.

This year you are going to see 700 SPS's on the shelf for a grand, an Axis is going to be over 500 bucks and if you want one with a cheap factory scope on it, it will cost you 600.

If you haven't bought your toys by now your heart just may stop when you see what a 35% exchange rate does to the sticker price. There is still a bit of lag right now because there is old stock around, but it's vanishing quickly...

Agreed.Just take a look at what reloading components are selling for now.

I would take a 783 over a 700 Rem. because of the stiffness of the receiver and Brewer type barrel retaining system for easy head spacing. My only bugaboo with the 783 is the pinched look of the cocking piece shroud on the bolt.
