Rem 783 - Some Range Testing - post 18

Here we go :

The initial launch is going to be the Howa short action, Remington 700 short action and Tikka T3/T3x short action. Then short on the heels of those launching we will be releasing the Ruger American short action and Savage Model 10/11/12/16 short action. Then we will have the 783 available after that and be looking at other inlets in between now and then of what else we can put in it.

I just spent some time with the lead engineer and he is ballparking the 783 to be ready to ship early December.

So in the gun biz early december means april at the earliest almost always. Oh well. It makes sense to focus on what they feel is the larger market first.

I can’t really understand why the 783HBT isn’t getting some more press online. Nearly no reviews out there... Seems like the perfect option for a tactical/precision rifle on a budget. $500 and out of the box you should have a decent trigger, heavy barrel, threaded muzzle, pic rail, and a decent bolt handle. For me the barrel is too short for 6.5 Creedmoor and the .300BLK doesn’t hold a lot of appeal without a suppressor but the .308 or .223 would be pretty serviceable I think. The flimsy stock is probably the biggest liability and an affordable chassis fixes that right quick. Lots of choices in affordable optics to match too.

The next closest thing is probably a savage 10T for almost double the money.

A savage 10TR can be had for 550$ all included (tx/ship)

The precision rifle budget options have grown tremendously in the past 1-2 years. Remington is a day late and a dollar short, as usual. Unless you are on the cheapest of budgets, there are better options out there. No reason to really pick a Rem783 over the current crop of budget offerings IMO.

That's probably why the Rem 783 isn't making waves online.

Timney did a "what to make next" survey on their Facebook page earlier this year... The Rem 783 got the largest vote and Timney is working on a new trigger now. With the rifle industry, kind of a chicken and egg thing. Savage went through the same thing until enough shooters bought their stuff and demands for goodies grew.

As the aftermarket grew, more volume of rifles got sold and thus, more demand for aftermarket stuff. It took over 6yrs to hit that critical mass but now, it is a very popular and common option.

Tikka is currently in the growth stage.. Howa is trying to develop a similar demand

The groups that discuss the 783 are all waiting for a chassis option and now they will have one. If sales mimic the chatter, a bunch of product will get sold... thus more rifles, thus more demand for stuff, etc, etc, etc.

The change in branding will make more sense once the full distribution chain is announced. Think of this more as an "inhouse" branding vs a division of another company.

I am hoping they get a lot of pre-orders for 783 chassis and decide to move up production but that would be wishful thinking this late in the game.

I've got 2 783's...308 and 7 rm, was thinking about selling them off because of the factory stocks...
Might have to rethink that now!

There is now a very affordable entry point into the precision shooting game... ready to shoot including optics and a match barrel, $2500 to 3500. That puts this within reach of a lot of shooters

Not the end all, but a solid and very competitive combination.. and now the thousands of extra dollars saved can be put into what really matters.

PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE.
