Remington 1100 - Convert to pump?

Hi,
I have a very nice Rem 1100 that I don't want to use because there are no parts available (in Canada). In particular, I understand certain springs and the gas piston commonly need replacing.

Has anyone converted their 1100 to a pump using parts from an 870? Is this feasible?

Naturally, I'd have to block the gas holes to the barrel. Any ideas?

You dont want to use it because parts availability. But you want to convert it to pump? Why not buy a parts 1100? But don't think you can convert them to pump.

I only ever needed to replace a coupe dollar o rings on mine.
 
The 1100 is still being made in 12ga, 20ga and 410.

Gravel Agency should be able to get you 1100 parts. They might not have them in stock .... but they can order from Remarms in the US.

Coverting? Never heard of a conversion to a pump .....

Waste of time and energy and parts. Sell it and buy a pump if you want a pump... or shoot it. It is an excellent gun and should give good performance. Usually just needs cleaning and occasionally a gas seal.
 
The 1100 isn't a rare gun and there should be available parts. Have you tried Western Gun Parts in Alberta? A post on the EE for what you need might help too. FWIW, I've not found any problem importing small parts from the U.S. via Brownells or other suppliers. I don't believe it would be possible to convert it to a pump.
 
...What? There's no provision on a semi auto for a pump fore-end to attach or cycle. There's nowhere for the action bars to go, and if there was, there's nowhere on the bolt for them to attach to. You wouldn't be much further behind if you were to build a pump shotgun from scratch. This isn't something that anyone does, ever. It makes less than no sense. Weird request, lol.

Well, perhaps he was watching Ian from Forgotten Weapons and thought "Well I have an 1100 can I make this work?"
Unfortunately it is prohib and has been for a number of years.
Seen one once in the wild, but it was stored in a trunk of someones car.

 
Thanks for all your answers. I've just bought an 870 so I'll be able to compare the parts and see what might fit.

For background, I read an article that explained the guns are very similar with some interchangeable parts. I couldn't find anything definitive about what I asked.

Remington developed the 1100 after the 870 and based on the experience with the 870. And yes, some parts are interchangeable ... like parts of the trigger group. For example after market safeties and the Timney 870 trigger fix will work on the 1100. I have both guns and the trigger group is very similar ...

However, there are huge differences in design overall .....

Have fun shooting your 1100 .... parts are still available ... but we do not know for how many more years. If you are worried about the future and the availability of parts .... buy extra spare parts now ....

Maybe I'm not good at finding parts because I have spent a serious amount of time looking online and found little of what I was advised to buy. Given that:
- one cannot legally import firearms parts without a permit
- my local gun shop has told me there are no more parts available

Can anyone tell me where to find:
- Gas piston rings (I've only found this on eBay, and they don't ship to Canada)
- Trigger groups

I did find some firing pin return springs on the Shotgun Parts EE forum and might order some.
