Hey,

Anyone had a chance to play with a 1911 made by Remington? whats the story? In house made or out sourced like half the cool stuff?

How is the fit and finish and reliability?

Thanks guys!

I am looking for opinions too. Looking to buy the enhanced too. For the money, you get pretty good fit and finish and fibre optic sights.

Would like to hear from anyone who has shot and or owned one.

I shoot a Remington 1911 .45 - our combined age - 137 years old and we've shot together from Alaska to Georgia and all points in between!!! There is NO FINER 1911 than a restored, properly tuned WWII Remington Rand topped off with an Ithica slide!!! Makes the Kimbers, STI's, Nordincs and all the other contemporary 1911 clones look pathetic!! But then I am from "the old school".

just my opinion but remington is currently poor for quality. my 20 or so year old 870 is shotgun perfection but my bros bought recently has a plastic trigger guard and machining marks and double feeds regularly. rem is like GM before near bankruptcy. i was a fan but now they are riding on the coat tails of their own name.

I just don't trust the new Remington 1911's any more after the R1 had issue's. This one might have initial problems as well. IMO they kind of blew it on the 1911 re-introduction where as Ruger has had great success so far with their first intro into the 1911 game. I would suggest an STI Spartan over the Remington R1 Enhanced and I'm sure a lot of others would too.

I have one of the plan R1's and I like it. Not enough down range to sing its praises but so far so good the only fails were user error and and not enough oil (cold running).

I bought the R1E. Awaiting transfer, will let you know how I like it after I get a chance to shoot it.

I contemplated for a few days of what to get. Between the R1E ($919)and the Kimber TLE 2 Stainless ($1375) I chose the R1E for practical reasons. I will say the Kimber is the nicer and tighter gun but not worth the premium minus a mag IMO. I wanted my first 1911 to be a bullet whore. Will see how she does asap.

One thing that might have sold me on the Kimber - if the main spring housing wasn't plastic. One day I might get a safe queen, but that would be more along the lines of the Kimber Raptor

Another factor on the R1E was that I have shot the well worn renter R1 at DVC. As worn and abused as it was - it still shot accurately and felt good.

So I picked up my R1E today and fed 100 rounds of Federal 230 RN thru it. I am very pleased so far with the performance so far. Had 2 FT feeds, both second to last rounds in the mags. I bought an extra 8 round Remington mag but I dunno if it was one or more mags that had issue.

Build quality is very good and tight though grip screws were loose and trigger feels like it's gonna fall out.

Ergo wise the stock Laminate grips are very grippy complimented by fore serrations and rear checkering including on memory bump. I have a couple pairs of Houge thin grips coming since the stock ones tend to be a tad thick for my hands.

I seem to get consistent tight groups and better accuracy compared to my Steyr M9. Trigger pull is short and very crisp.

Though I can't compare it to any other 1911s, I really like this gun, it is my favorite in my small collection thus far. My wife even likes it, but mainly because it's easier to load the mags than my M9.

Another 200 rounds tomorrow.
