I just bought a brand new 597 and have not fired it yet but have done some research and have found that there is issues with the extractor. I am curious if anybody else has had any similar issues and if so should i buy a new extractor before I take my new toy out to shoot?

Kinda like th'ol song about a boomerang that won't come back, or th'ol adage about painting the devil on the wall. I too have read some folks have had extractor issues (earlier magazines too).

I have owned a few 597s now, and nary an extraction issue has presented itself to me. Test fire it before fixing anything. If it's brand new, and you have issues then don't touch a thing, and get it replaced or repaired. I love tinkering with older gems, but wouldn't go deep on a new gun...let the vendor/manufacturer repair/replace.

I hope your luck is like mine, and only read of these issues on the internet.

that is exactly why i came here to ask others. I dont believe stuff i read on the internet and the plan was to test fire it to find out first before digging into it. thanks for the replies.

OK, here goes. I had a guy bring me a 597 to fix. It was missing the extractor and spring. From what I could figure out, the bolt closed on a jam, and the extractor became unhooked and it and the spring took off for parts unknown. I contact Brownells and order one of each. They have two types of extractor, an OEM and another make. I order the other make. A day or so later I get an email from them, the other make is not approved for export. I order the OEM one, which is approved. Unbeknownst to me they've already sent the spring. A while later I receive two identical boxes in he mail. Both are about 6 inches square. On contains a tiny spring and bubble wrap. It was $21 to mail. The other contains a tiny extractor and bubble wrap. It also cost $21 to mail. Both parts could be covered by a dime and would have easily fit in an envelope. So I spent $42 on postage for $8.00 worth of parts. I freakin' lose it. I call Brownells, and in my politest voice I explain the situation. They refund $21. I'm OK with that, and that's my 597 extractor story.

I picked up my 597 ss used and had a little bit of an issue Of failing to extract. Broken down for a good cleaning and found the extractor to be all gummed up. Sprayed some cleaner on it and use the toothbrush soft bristled and cleaned it up. Now I have no issues with it extracting. I check your extractor even though it's new it could be fouled up with some gunk. even if it looks clean I recommend you try cleaning it anyways just to make sure before you go through the trouble of changing it. IMO

Gravel angency carries parts in Canada for the 597 and may even be free if gun is in warranty.
Just got some parts for mine and they were very easy to deal with and had great communication.
