Remington 597?

i have a remington 597 in .22 and it a great gun.. the only problem i had with it was jamming once in a while from ammo bought at wal-mart...then i switched to CCI Stingers and it worked fine after that!

The only issue I have is all my mags are the original ones, and have some issues. Polishing the rails made a big difference. I also polished the hammer, and reversed the springs to reduce trigger pull.

Now with the Boyd's stock:

I like it!

I bought mine about 10 years ago after trying out the highly recommended 10/22. I tried to like it (really I did!), but the stock felt like I was holding a fat club and the length of pull was too short.

Mine feeds whatever I put in it, but prefers the CCI Stinger. I have installed a Volquartsen Target Hammer and the trigger pull that was already a crisp 6 lbs, is now a crisp 4 lbs.

Next up - I intend to bed the stock. The barrel is free floating, and the inletting for the action was drop-in and pretty tight, but it could be tighter.

i have 4 597s 2 in working order 1 parts gun 1 i in the mail and wife has 1 too. at 15m she puts bullets in the same hole and she is very inexperienced.
i had jam problems but the rifle had a plastic mag. NOT anymore..other than that i loosened and polished the rods and... polished the hammer ( which i dont recommend doing if you have no experience)good thing to do is to get VQ hammer and extractor.Love the rifle. Wish i got one with laminated stock its nice. Put a $100 scope on it and go play
also...check the bolt that holds barrel in place...it may come loose.little tightening and loctite helps it

Cabelas special

Hey guys I just purchased that 597 combo from Cabelas, I haven't shot it yet du to cold weather but the overall fit and finish of the 22 feels and looks great. Happy with my purchase.

Thanks

I got one for my son....many times I hear him sigh and just put the gun down in frustration. It seems to me the trigger pull is excessive. Can buying the Volquartzen hammer fix this? Has it got a smaller sear engagement?

The 597 is really picky ammowise. I bought a 597 yellowjacket with the 20'' heavy barrel and it is very accurate.
Also has a last shot bolt hold open.
I was never a 10/22 fan, despite the fact that they are very reliable.

Yes you can & yes it will. Or you can do what I did and file down the trigger a bit to reduce it that way but if you do please rember less is best! Just check with snap caps to make sure you didn't take to much off.
