I have a Rem 600 - .308 Win that is making me mildly mad.
Sent it to Remington for the safety recall. Now the bolt will open with safety on, as well as no accidental discharge concerns. All good. However.....
Since the safety work was done..... Fire 1 shot..OK. 2 Shots ...OK, but fire 3 shots in succession, such as shooting off the bags, and the bolt will not open.
Seems that if it warms up, it sticks. And I do mean sticks.. we are talking rubber mallet stuff here.
Low pressure reloads, Factory - 3 different brands, doesn't seem to matter.
No pressure signs whatsoever on any of the fired cases. Even the stuck ones.
Remington service center says - not our problem, as we just did the safety work. They did volunteer to polish the chamber as a possible fix without even examining the gun. At my expense of course.
Any ideas/ comments/ suggestions???????

Well it isn't anything Remington just did on their recall... it is just a coincidence. The recall was simply to change the safety so it will not lock the bolt down. I believe many years ago Remington lost a law suit... they were being sued over the fact that if the firearm had a round chambered and you had the safety engaged, you could not remove that round without first disengaging the safety... and that procedure was not safe.

It is possible you have a carbon buildup and the barrel needs a very good cleaning in the throat area... I have not experienced that personally but I have read reports of it.

When you do get the round out of the chamber, does the brass appear smooth on the body diameter?

I would suggest taking it to an experienced gunsmith.

All my Rems bolt lock with safety on - incl my 600. Could never see a problem with that. Bolt locked? its ready to go, shell in or not. Never have a problem with my .308 600's bolt. Not broke? Don't fix it. My $0.02 Never experienced an "accidental" discharge in 40 years of shooting.

X2 re; perceived safety problem with Remmy 600's. I read one case where a kid was unloading his 600 .243 and it discharged into his fathers back? I don't think having a safety modification can protect these kind of people from themselves..... back to the post sounds like a chamber issue.

cheers Darryl

The safety issue on the 600 was... Bolt closed , safety on...... pull trigger to " test" the safety ... no problem. Move the safety off.. gun discharges without touching the trigger. Also the safety locked the bolt closed. It was not considered a good idea to be unable to empty the magazine when the safety was engaged.
Had an XP100 with same concerns. Removed the safety entirely and all problems disappeared.
Unfortunately my lawyer had nightmares concerning this .
I suspect that the issue I described concerns the safety. In its original configutation, the safety locked the bolt closed when engaged.

Safety on, bolt locked, just the way I like it!:D

Just doesn't make sense walking in the woods with the bolt unlocked, that's what you get when you perform the recall!
