Remington 600 Mohawk in 222 cal.

Anyone know what the cost should be to rechamber in 223?

I have a 600 .222 barrel, rechambered to .223.
It will NOT shoot 5.56 55gr ball. The bullets do not stabilize properly. It is very accurate with .223 sporting ammunition to 55gr.

Tiriaq whats the twist rate in the 600? Is this the same reason the original M-16 was changed from 1-14 to 1-12 for M193 FMJ ball ammo

Possibly. I've not measured it. The 1-14 in the early ARs would shoot 55gr ball in warm weather; failed during cold weather testing.

When I reloaded for the .222 many years ago, actually I dug out the old Speer #11 manual to check, it says the 1-14 twist would accurately shoot up to 55grs in the .222. I guess the basic difference is maybe they were referring to their own spitzer flat base and not the M193 style fmj, which for same weight is longer and therefore hard to put to sleep with 1/14. I only shoot Winchester factory in 50gr PSP to get brass and speer 52s handloaded. None were tackdrivers in an untuned Sako A1, HB, varmint. Don't recall if it was 1-14 or 1-16!

I'm not sure if the higher velocity from the rechambered .223, all else equal, would be a + or - for putting to sleep the ecomomy 55FMJs for plinking, versus the slightly slower .222.

I saw the ad and lol'd. I was actually going to make an offer on this rifle, but if he wants 800 I don't think a reasonable offer would be looked at.

I'm sure his price will come down. He's already dropped it $5 if it was listed at $800.

Then it will be the one who wants it the most buying it.

Wow guys, take it easy. My research showed a Mohawk in 308 just sold for $750. A private message to that seller indicated that the 222 is more valuable and rare. So I think if there is any interest in this firearm you should be making offers not offenses.

You do understand that these guns are STILL for sale???
The ones that sell are between $400- $500.
I can post my 870 wingmaster for $1200, doesn't mean its worth that much.
But, like i said before, GOOD LUCK.
