Remington 700 alternatives?

I've got a Coyote M70 and its a great rifle. Its actually up for sale right now. Breaks my heart, but I went with a Tikka and haven't looked back. Some people see the Tikka stock as an asset and some as a cheap liability. I personally like it over wood (saves weight) and I like the tactical look, but YMMV. In any case, out of the box the Tikka T3 Tactical is ready to go, the only think I added was a scope and a comp, but everything else is top notch and prints sub MOA easily. I find the M70 shoots very well as well, but I think the Tikka comes in a bit more accurate with less effort - and I own both in .308, so its an opinion backed up by ownership.
 
It is akin to arguing over chev ,dodge or ford,there is good and bad in all.If there was a perfect rifle I am sure we would all know about it.Myself I am a remington fan, tikka may be good but I did not feel the love when I picked one up not to mention that ### plastic clip, I have no reason not to like browning exept for a gunstore owner who also claims to be a gunsmith ,recently told me he would not touch a newer browning with a ten foot pole but he liked the older ones.There are probally as many opinions on what is the best gun as there are gun owners.I would say do some reading on gun reviews then go to a shop with good selection ,handle a bunch and see which one you have a hard time putting back on the rack then buy it.
 
Any rifle can shoot with some mods.
No 1 for me is a trigger. Rem and WIn can be adjust safely down to 3lbs or less, mine is at 2.5lbs in .30-06, but for .300RUM I went with Rifle Basix an I set it for 2lbs.
No 2, little work with lapping the rings (always buy good quality) and putting right scope will help
No 3 Fitting the stock for the shooter, helps
No 4 Good barrel/stock correlation, if needed do bedding, but not on cheap Rems they shoot better as they are

That should help.
 
If you get an older Rem action, D or lower in the serial # they are good. I have had and do have 700's and liked them all. Lots of stuff on the market if you wish to customize them. whoever at Rem brought out the 710 should be sent to work for Savage.Wichester and that controled round push feed BS. Ruger has some good ideas. Had a couple of Brownings if you like shiny wood they are OK.....

Hey Super it means exactly what I said... They have been using the same dies for a long time...:confused:

And yeah I would definitely look for an older Rem for a Custom build if I liked the Remington 700 platform. But I don't, I would personally choose a Model 70 or a Mauser action for a custom :cool:

I don't dislike Remingtons... although I have some issues with the Q/C on thier firearms. Mostly I am just grinding the regular Remmy guys who take the same sort of shots at the other (better) firearms out there!:p

I liked Bartells response the best so far... He is a master of intraweb...and he makes a good argument for choosing Remington!:runaway:

At the risk of sounding ignorant, I'm not sure what these "dies" are you speak of and how do they translate into the making of a Remington. :redface:

You know exactly what I mean... the tools that are used for machining the various parts that make up the firearm. Regarding the 700 these tools and manufacturing techiniques are very old. Just an ovservation regarding Quality Control.;)

And those statements are not contradictory at all.. one is talking about a type of action/bolt design that is very poor at controlling gas blowback. I prefer other platforms.:runaway:
And my other statement is in reference to a Gun Manufacter and the guns that they make. I have shot many Remingtons that I like and would like to own.:cool:
 
I think we should all mud wrestle over the question. Last man standing's gun brand wins...

This is beginning to sound like a ##### contest...
 
I like the look and feel and price of the SPS 700s...but as long as I am living at home (for the duration of college) I do not think I can safely bring home another synthetic gun and not catch hell for it. :p

Do all other gunmakers use brand new tooling and new techniques or old tools with new techniques or old tools and old techniques? :)

Levi, Bigred said they are poor quality. I think you should sell them and buy a T3 replacement. your 700's are inferior and junk. Bigred has spoken ;)

I decided to take a picture of a Rem700 and add some plastic to make it apealing to the naysayers. I know I know, not quite enough to bring it up to T3 standards ;)
