remington 700 in .338 lapua?

doesnt the Lapua use the same case size as a 378 Wby or 416 Rigby??

if so, I think its too large to be loaded in a 700...

I think that rumour is a few years old. They aren't. The 700 boltface won't handle anything larger than the standard magnum.......... about .535" in diameter.. that's why they came out with the "ultra-mags".

I talked to Mike Haugen Remingtons Military Rep 2 yrs ago and was told that yes the Current 700 mag action is capable of handling the 338 Lapua and was told at that time that Remington was going to manufacture the rifle for military market first

the Lapua has a larger bolt face than a standard magnum

.586" case head, compared to .532" for a regular magnum

The Remington 700 as we know it will not handle the head size of the Lapua case, just as it will not handle the head size of the .378-.460 Weatherby...

Remington is not going to alter their extractor system, so they would have to make a larger diameter bolt and action for the Lapua.....

Many alterations have been done to 700 actions to handle just about every cartridge out there, but not as a factory project.

I still think the rumour is an old one from before Remington came out with the Ultra-Mags...

They are making them in .338 Lapua Mag and we have some on order, they are in my remington law enforcement price guide for this year, the specs are as follows.
Remington 700 MLR Police
26" Barrel
Parkerized finish
Heavy Barrel (no sights)
Twist: 1-10
H-S precision LTR Stock

I contacted our distributor for remington law products and they said they should be in my hands soon.We will hope to see and sorry no pics at the moment, but I am sure no different than the other Police models.

The .338 Lapua case is basically a standard .416 Rigby case necked down to .338 with the walls slightly strengthened.

I would really like to see that Remington MLR Police, I'm sure it will shoot like crazy.

With that short 26 inch barrel I would be surprised if the velocity is any higher than the .340 Weatherby cartridge and there is no reason for it to be more accurate. For better accuracy rebarrel any 700 to a .300 Win Mag....

Remington experimented with a rebated Lapua case so it would fit a 700 magnum boltface. It will be interesting to see how this 700 rifle is made....
