REMINGTON 700 - One of the Best All Around Rifles?

Personally I prefer 30-06 over 308 as a "do it all" hunting cartridge. The 30-06 gives you higher bullet weight options for reloading versus the 308.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard a complaint about a model 700 on the internet. Cheap, poor quality, needs upgrading....

it all depends when you Remington 700 was purchases - me like the Ruger 10/22 do not want something i am going to throw money at after i bought it - to make it more accurate. I may stick my head out of the trenches by saying I am considering the Bergara B-14 Hunter in 6.5 over the Rem Gen 2 5R

Yes sir a real POS you have there. NOT One that will do you a life time and generations to come after you pass it down
Yes there may be better out there but the old 700's IMO are a dam fine gun for the investment dollars we originally paid for them
I love my BDL's

That one is some sweet and thanks for sharing
Cheers

I have had a few, all good rifles. (2 X .30-06, 2 X .308, 3 X .280 Rem, 2 X 7mm-08, and a .250 Savage.)
My favourite variant is the BDL; I like the stock fit and the retro iron sights. The CDL is good too, and I like the stock fit. And don't actually NEED the iron sights. I like wood/blued rifles.

If forced tomorrow to choose the single most practical Model 700 rifle from my safe, I would choose my BDL in .30-06, though I'd be fine with a .308.

Functions 100%, shoots MOA, robust, not too heavy, and will kill anything in North America that I would ever want or need to shoot. And if all I had for ammo was 165-grain Nosler Partitions over a decent powder, I'd be okay with that.

Let me count the ways....
270 BDL in 1977, 300 Win Mag BDL 1978, 22-250 BDL in 1979, 8mm Remington Mag in 1980,243 BDL Varmint barrel about 1982, 257 Roberts Mountain Rifle sometime in the early 90's.
Honestly never had a single issue with any of them and I won't ever hesitate to buy a used one built in that era.
I know the whereabouts of the 270 (mine) the 22-250 and the 300 Mag (sold to friends) and they're all working just fine thousands of rounds and decades old.

I've owned, shot and hunted many 700's and 7's in different calibers and D.O.M.'s over the years and all were accurate and reliable rifles.
Is the Remington Model 700 my personal favorite action?,well,no, but I think it's deserving of the title of one of the best "all around" sporting rifle designs of the 20th century.

I'm still laughing that someone is dumb enough to buy 13 duds in a row.

You'd think a guy would clue in a bit quicker? :)

Did you stick a normally pressured case and were unable to extract it?
Did you actually have an issue with it extracting or were you watching you tube videos?

Take shim stock and measure while engaging the initial extraction cam to see how much tighter it could be...

You’re grasping now. So you didn't have an extraction problem, neither have I. But complain that the primary extraction is a problem that needs addressing. Now a trigger problem that's cause by bolt timing, on the internet of course. Rather than actual experience.
I guess being the keeper of internet complaints makes you an authority on the subject.
Come back when you experience an actual problem with a model 700 extracting.
Consider your "issue" addressed.
