REMINGTON 700 - One of the Best All Around Rifles?

If you are not wanting to customize IMO Remington’s trigger is unusable as is, nor can it be improved. I’ve had them gone over by very competent gunsmiths and in every case the pull weight would consistently increase with use.

As mentioned, I will never be hunting a polar bear, grizzly, bison, sheep nor elk. I would have to travel thousands of KMs to find one of those animals.

I am not married to the M700 nor the 308. Another model rifle or perhaps a 30-06 option would definitely be something I would consider.

I chose the M700 in 308 as they are both extremely common. Finding ammunition, parts or a fellow to work on the rifle (if required) should be relatively easy. I also like the low recoil property of the 308. The M700 seems to enjoy a solid reputation. The combo seems like a good place to start the conversation.

Building a custom rifle or customizing a rifle is simply not a place I want to start my journey. I am a simple fellow who likes utility. I don't mind spending some money but I also prefer a go to gun over something so fancy that I wouldn't want to hunt with.

Remington M700? Winchester M70? Tika? Savage? With my limited rifle experience I really have no brand loyalty. I am simply hoping to simply find a solid, durable rifle that will last me a long time.

If me I would pick up a good used vintage 700 BDL in 308 ( be patient they are out there) or 3006 out of the EE and it will do everything you have on your list for your lifetime regardless what these internet gun smiths say and it won't cost you an arm and a leg

1000's and 1000's of rounds on targets and no issues hunting with any of mine over 40 plus years out of the box . So good I kept six to take me to my grave and growing up with a gunsmith dad who owned a small gun shop got to see, handle and work on as I got older most brands

The more some post the more they show how little they know about 700's and makes me laugh since in the next breath they have gunsmiths doing their work for them
No smith has ever touched one of my firearms in 55 years and 100's of guns I have had other than Briley USA for choke tube installs on shotguns and Bob B on superx1 replating
Most my age who know their firearms fix their own if required. I say ask that next dead deer or moose if he noticed your poor 700 trigger LOL
Cheers

Guntec seems to be able to tune them easily, maybe you need a better gunsmith?
I sent 2 in for recall replacement to Gravel that I had already replaced with Timney's, they came back as good as the Timney's...sold the Timney's and put the Rem units back in.

Not sure if somebody brought this up.

Remington rifle settlement, including free trigger replacement, is official

Key Points

Owners of some 7.5 million Remington firearms, including the Model 700 rifle, now have 18 months to file a claim.
A class action suit alleged the guns can fire without the trigger being pulled, though the company still maintains they are safe.
CNBC investigated allegations, denied by Remington, that the company covered up the alleged defect for decades.

I am not a Remington hater. I have a remington 1100 that I have used for over 40 years and a remington 742 in 30-06.

When someone asks me the 'what rifle' question, with those parameters, my default answer has become, 'Tikka'.

I Love the walker trigger. Although I have seen two of them freeze solid at very inoportune times.

Love the trigger, hate the trigger. Do you have several different personalities?

Remington 700's are pretty good for the money. they are easily upgradeable with triggers and lots of options for barrels, stocks, and accessories. 308 is a great caliber especially for what you are saying it will be used for.
My only other suggestion would be to look into Tikka's as I've had more luck with them.

Dude, I’ve adjusted dozens upon dozens of triggers. Among many other things. But I’m certainly not a gunsmith and I have certainly had gunsmiths do a lot of work for me. In fact I have some work that needs done. Do you want to take it on?

Here is the short list:

I have a Williams “one piece” bottom metal unit that I would like the cage removed on. It will require a second hole in the trigger bow for the middle guard screw and then the cage milled free so that the transition is not visible. I would also like the trigger slot tigged and recut for a narrower shoe. I’ll send specs.
I have a receiver that I would like the rear bridge and receiver ring surface ground to restore concentricity and parallel edges on the bridge.
I need a bolt release tigged and ground and then checkered.
I also need a trigger ground narrowed, and shotgun faced for a left hand shooter.
When you get that done, I need a bolt handle replaced. I’d like a match to the factory sweep, but with a deeper scallop at the root. I’ll send pictures.

Oh, I almost forgot, I’ve got a spring steel extractor that is for a standard bolt face that I need opened for a magnum.

Laughing! OMG Chuck!
Hilarious
And on a Model 700 thread to boot.
Wow is right.
All those trick moves just to get a Model 70 to work, eh?
Today's word is: hypocrisy.

Not all of us are satisfied with savage R.Man.

Do you have one single thing, just one thing to contribute to this thread? Or are you just going to continue to follow me around like a proverbial stalker, denigrating my choice and opinion? You’ve been doing it for over ten years on various forums. It is weird.

Guys, whatever you have going on there .... can you please take it off line!!
For us here ... who are interested in the topic of this thread .... we are really not interested in your personal affairs .....

Can you take your love story somewhere else or get a room please!!!
