Remington 700 Police LTR .308

Thanks to fishing world I found my starting point, will be picking it up tomorrow.

Need help with a scope still, id like to pick that up tomorrow as well.

THinking I wont be doing any super long shots as I wont have access to such a range right now but something good for 100-600yrd I think would be good. Hopefully not more than the rifle in cost.

Bushnell elite 6500? Or something else?

Check around but at the time the prices I received from ATR for a bone stock rifle were not much more and you get a experienced eye reviewing the rifle. Having said that most good gun shops I would hope would take a look at the rifle. Just saying the Remington products in my experience have been hit and miss. Still like the action the most though. LTR's are a nice rifle. The stock is very handy.

I looked at the LTR and ATR's website but decided otherwise and ended up getting a fair deal on a gently used 5R off the EE as I didn't like the matte black finish on the P and LTR.

New LTR's in 308 sell for $1200 at Epps and they're not the lowest priced gun store in Canada by any means. ATR wants $1875 for one with a tac bolt knob, trigger "tune", bedding job and rail.
That's $675 for the added work which, IMO, is too much. I guess someone figured it wasn't, as I see it's sold now.

To my knowledge, no gunshop test fires new rifles nor will they do a free action blueprinting/trueing, so your guess as to accuracy is as good as theirs. About all they'll do is check to make sure the stock isn't bust in half before shipping.

Yah I am not too sure about getting an already TUNED rifle for more than I am willing to spend to start out. I will be cool with an out of the box and slowly upgrade if I really think its needed. ATS im sure does good work but I cant shell out that kind of cash at the moment.

Did some looking today, no one has any sps tactical in 308 or the aacsd's

Thinking of just sitting this out for a while longer till stock comes into some of the shops or change caliber to .223. I dont want to buy a 1200.00 rifle just to take it apart. I like the idea of the AAC-SD but dont know who has one right now, I think ive gone through all the shops on this site looking. This is my winter build project and my first but its starting to look like a spring summer project, oh wait I will be daddy daycare till she is old enough to take up a 22

Now im thinking a .223 which in reality is prob good enough for learning and taking care of "ZOMBIES" eventually. (kidding)

Also anyone used Millet scopes? I saw one that was reasonable in price and got ok reviews

I'd personally recommend a .223 over a .308 for a beginner or someone shooting on a budget. You seemed settled on what you wanted so naturally, no one brought it up. Either way, same advice holds true. A SPS Tactical .223 will have the same 20" 1:9" twist barrel that is no different (except no flutes) than the LTR. It's the most economical way to go.

I've never owned a Millet so I can't comment on it except to say it likely wouldn't be my first choice. There's lots to chose from in the budget range you're looking to spend. Determine what you need and then select accordingly.

If you really don't know what you want and can't make up your mind, buy a 3200 Tactical 10x to start you out on something decent. When you're ready to make an informed purchase decision I guarantee you you'll have no problem finding another rifle to use the scope on. I've got (3) of these and you'll not regret buying one.

bought a lemon millett buck gold. sent er back to bushnell, they sent me a trs-1 back which was nice, havent had it out, maybe tommorow to site it in

Well I have my setup, actually its still in the shop, the registry for the second time buying a new gun sent it to the province. Have it in my hands on monday.

Remington, 700, XCR COMPACT TACTICAL.308
Bushnell elite 6500 2.5 - 16 x 42
Harris Bipod.

Thanks to Bryan and fishing world for coming down to give me a hand, and finding a good rifle for me at less than what I was looking at in the police model.

im sure I will be happy with this setup for what I will use it for.

Glad to see that you are off to the races! I have had a number of 700's. Only complaint, if you want to call it that is the length of the throat. This allows for any weight bullet you might want to shot from a given caliber. I found that I really had to hang the bullet out of the case to get close to the lands. BUT, as Bryan can tell you, each gun is different. His Police liked the bullets to jump from across the room to produce sub 1/2 MOA groups with FMJ bullets! Brake it in (Bryan can walk you through that) and than put a box of Federal match ammo (or other high quality ammo) through it to get a base line.
The next thing to do is post pictures of your set up with the targets you shot. BEST OF LUCK!

Congrats on the Compact Tactical. That is what I have, great shooting gun. Had 'er bedded and the trigger tuned up and I can maintain sub MOA of the pod

XCR is a good rifle. Stainless steel with a decent stock and excellent finish. Will last a lifetime as is or be great to build on.

Enjoy it!

SO $1200.00 for a bare untouched unchecked rifle is a fair price, which by the way is EXACTLY what we sell 1 for.

Add $125.00 for the optional bolt knob, add $150.00 for proper bedding which WILL reduce group sizes significantly and then add a high quality scope rail for $175.00 and then add $40.00 for having the trigger tuned. This all adds up to a GREATLY enhanced rifle for $1675.00 and unless the plan is to use duct tape to intall you scope, you don't care about getting the best accuracy, like the factory 8lb trigger are all things most guys have to do to the rifle in order to shoot it.

Also unlike almost every gun shop in Canada, we DO carefully examine each factory rifle for flaws such as bad crowns, rough chambers, missing rifling etc which is a fair bit more involved than simply checking to see if the stock is not "bust in half" as you suggest. We use a good number of 700 actions for builds we do in the course of the year so can easliy relogate a rifle to parts use only if it has some flaw or issue that we would prefer our clients not to have to worry about.
We DO test fire EVERY rifle sell, so if you are going to make statements about what we do please confine them to what you ACTUALLY know rather posting mis-information.

We DO offer "enhanced or upgraded" rifles for sale, something very few shops do, but we DO charge for the upgrades as they ARE options that we get requests for daily and that many folks want. If you want a bone stock unchecked over rifle thas fine too, if the costs associated with the upgrades are beyond you means thats fine too, but don't slag on us becasue of it.

I'll second a quality product form ATRS! I love my 700 5R from them. They did a great job bedding and tuning the trigger. I'd pick up another rifle from them anyday, and I'm hoping to pickup a scope soon

The one you listed on your website the LTR in .308 was listed for over 1800, is that the one your talking about here?
