Remington 700 sps tactical bolt issues?

I would say either your scope base screws or your bedding screws are too long and stopping the bolt from closing. I will bet you can't dry fire it that position.

I have to admit that yes, that is likely an action screw or scope screw issue and it is disgusting that a rifle like that can be shipped deffective. I also think Jerry meant to shorten the screw, NOT the rifle's bolt :)

Oh, so thats why there's two dfiferent size screws...Big one in the front. I set this up in such a rush i didn't notice...and fell onto the floor crying like a baby when the bolt wouldn't close.
thx Maynard and mysticplayer..:dancingbanana:
its fixed.

I'll bet it actually did not fire in that position either... it might have gone "click" though...

When the bolt is open that far I think it would be preventing the firing pin from protruding...

It is kind of scary to see the low quality of some home gunsmithing quite often ...:)

Well, at least i didn't use my 20 lb sludge hammer to drive the bolt handle down.

Years ago, when I first started to work on rifles. I put a set of control rings on my fathers Germany Weatherby. One of the screw was about .010" to long. I put in the bolt and cycled the action. Put a nice scratch in the bolt. Since then I always check all screw and bolt lengths. Stick you little finger in the lug area if you can and feel around for anything. But better yet calipers and measure.

They don't come from the factory with a scope mount nor with the scope screw mounts installed in the wrong holes...

Ah, I see. For some reason I thought he was talking about the action screws, my bad. Lucky for me though, I don't claim to be a gunsmith.
