Do yourself a big favour and forget about the Remington. They are garbage compared to the Tika T3. Have a little patience and save up and get one. The Tika has a user adjustable trigger and a 1 inch garantee. Every one of them that I have shot or seen shoot will easily beat that.
Seems like you have to play around quite a bit to get Remingtons to shoot, bedding replacing stocks yadda yadda yadda. My T3 shot an honest 1/2 " group the first time I shot it , and that was with factory loads !
the weight is a bit of a deal to me. right now where i go hunting is a bit of a hike and i havent got a quad yet.I had one in .308 with a HS Precision Stock, free floated and bedded. It would make a nice rilfe for Target shooting, and maybe ocaisional Hunting, but it is on the heavier side....depending on how far it has to be carried.
If I were you id go Tikka, imho i think (my opinion here) that the new Remington SPS's are junk. The CDL, BDL XCR etc etc are the good ones. Just my $0.2. But if arent set on one of those 2 guns, id recommend maybe a weatherby sub MOA (WSS has em on sale right now) or a winchester. Both good guns with reasonable prices. But Out of the 2 you listed Tikka all the way.
just did some quick math..
SPS Varmit @ bass pro on sale for $529 - $70 off (just doublechecked the flyer)
@ LeBaron $574 plus 10% member discount and $40 mail in rebate if its still running...
looks like lebaron is much cheaper again.
ill probably use my giftcards @ bass pro on some reloading equipment... i need the 308 kit and a brass cleanerr.
also, after doing a little reading the 700 tactical is the same action but a better stock, and its only $10 more.
i want to see if i can find the one with the threaded barrel @ lebaron in a few weeks when they get their shipment in. (i was there today)
Model 700™ SPS™ Tactical AAC®-SD™ is the one i think i wanta see before i make a decision....we will see if they get it in. threaded barrel is easier to add a muzzle break on.

not set on those 2 models. im in no rush i want to buy once and buy it right.
havent even started looking into the glass yet but ive tried a couple Leopoids my friends have and really likes the clairity. im going to wait to pick though because im geting laser eye surgury in a couple months so ill decide once my eyes have adjusted.
LeBaron raised the price on the Remington sps Varmint... its $620 now. i wonder what changed to justify a price change from $575...
I have the tactical in .223 and my son has one in .308. they shoot fine and are handier than the varmint model. The stock feels better on the tactical but doesn't slide back on the bags very well ( I put a piece of smooth leather between the stock and bag). The price is right and you can easily re-sell it if you don't like it.
On the other hand, Tradex has new Zastava Mausers in .308 with a plastic stock for $395. http://www.shop.tradeexcanada.com/produits/95?page=4
ill be using it on a bi-pod, not a bag, so thats not really a issue for me, but good to know.I have the tactical in .223 and my son has one in .308. they shoot fine and are handier than the varmint model. ill take a look at some x-bolts , thanks for the suggestion. ive tried to avoid buying browning only because its one of my friends last names and the hats ive bought i cant wear around him otherwise i look like his fan club lol (i gave him my bran new browning hat for this reason...lol)Don't the tikka's cost about as much as browning x-bolts?
Is this something you've considered? The composite stocks feel very good.
I have an x-bolt with a wood stock and everybody who has ever put their booger picker on the trigger has been pretty impressed.
good info.. thanks! If weight is an issue, dont get the 700 varmint. Ive got one in .223 and i would not want to be hiking around with it.
Get a sporter weight.
