Remington 700 SPS Varmint ???

I call BS on your statement about the honest 1/2" group. You do know that for 1/2" (12mm) the bullet holes in the target pretty much have to touch, depending on the caliber....right? I almost had one go through the same hole, and with the REMY!....GASP! Flukiest shot of my life. I try not to portray it as the standard for that rifle, just that it is capable of it (under perfect conditions).
My son bought a Tikka T3 and it shoots like every other rifle....just over an inch. When I first bought my Remington, it shot the same. About an average of 1" more or less, depending on the loads. Same as the T3. I replaced the stock and am able to shoot it once in a while under the 1/2" with the rifle on a bi-pod and butt end rested with precision loads and no wind. PERFECT CONDITIONS. In other words, the rifle is accurate as hell! His T3 is also on the bipod and still shoots the same just over an 1". He wonders why he spent the extra $300 when my cheapo Remy with a $149 stock shoots so well. OH yeah, I forgot....it was all the hype!
I also have a plain ol' Vanguard which now shoots just under 1" after I bubba'd the stock.
You advocate T3's...ok I got it, but don't shovel the bulls##t with your honest 1/2" crap first time out.
Maybe at 25 yards, but not at 100. There are benchrest shooters with $5,000 or more equipment that achieve what you proclaim your T3 does with ease. Nuff said!
If I were you id go Tikka, imho i think (my opinion here) that the new Remington SPS's are junk. The CDL, BDL XCR etc etc are the good ones. Just my $0.2. But if arent set on one of those 2 guns, id recommend maybe a weatherby sub MOA (WSS has em on sale right now) or a winchester. Both good guns with reasonable prices. But Out of the 2 you listed Tikka all the way.
If you have handled the Tikka, like the look and feel, and don't wish to make any modifications, it is a good choice. I had one in 308 and it shot very well.
On the other hand, if you might want to buy an aftermarket stock or do other gunsmithing work, the Remington has more accessories and pool of knowledgeable gunsmiths.

I would stick with the 700, the upgrades are endless.
the weight is a bit of a deal to me. right now where i go hunting is a bit of a hike and i havent got a quad yet.
not set on those 2 models. im in no rush i want to buy once and buy it right.
havent even started looking into the glass yet but ive tried a couple Leopoids my friends have and really likes the clairity. im going to wait to pick though because im geting laser eye surgury in a couple months so ill decide once my eyes have adjusted.
LeBaron raised the price on the Remington sps Varmint... its $620 now. i wonder what changed to justify a price change from $575...
I have the tactical in .223 and my son has one in .308. they shoot fine and are handier than the varmint model. The stock feels better on the tactical but doesn't slide back on the bags very well ( I put a piece of smooth leather between the stock and bag). The price is right and you can easily re-sell it if you don't like it.

Don't the tikka's cost about as much as browning x-bolts?
Is this something you've considered? The composite stocks feel very good.

ill be using it on a bi-pod, not a bag, so thats not really a issue for me, but good to know.
ive never hears of Zastava...any good??? they dont give much info on that site.
ill take a look at some x-bolts , thanks for the suggestion. ive tried to avoid buying browning only because its one of my friends last names and the hats ive bought i cant wear around him otherwise i look like his fan club lol (i gave him my bran new browning hat for this reason...lol)

with the sportsman show coming up in a few weeks ill talk a look around there and see if something else pops up that i like.
also lebaron usually does no tax plus member 10% off during the show.
im leaning back towards the t3 stainless or blued depending on what the final price difference is between the 2.
1 thing i do know is i want brand new with warranty... its something ill be keeping a long time.
