Remington 700P LTR vs Tikka T3 Tactical

Which one is the better overall rifle?

without knowing the weight of the factory stock it is hard to tell, The MDT LSS may be lighter but the TAC21 will be heavier.

If someone would bring in a CTR with the set trigger I would probably get one and put it in a LSS chassis after having a shorter and lighter profile fluted barrel put on it

I've not weighed them, but the LSS all fitted out feels a bit heavier than the OEM stock.

After looking at video reviews for Tikka T3, I hate the stock. It looks el cheapo compare to Remington 700LTR.

I am thinking to get the Tikka CTR since it is $800 cheaper compare to Tikka T3 tactical and then swap the chasis with MDT HS3. What do you guys think?

A couple of things that I like from the Remy is the fluted barrel and the HS stock.

I think the either the ctr or regular varmit in an hs3 stock would make you a very happy person, .. i would personally go with the varmit, once you put it in the hs3 you get their bottom metal and have to use their mags anyways so defeats the ctr nice bottom metal and mags.,. With the varmit at least you get a real nice barrel. And maybe a better trigger, not sure if its the same trigger as the ctr or not.

What are you going to use for an optic?

I have a Tikka T3 CTR in .308 and I absolutely love the rifle. Before this a couple years back I had a Remington 700 LTR that ATRS bedded, and did a trigger job for me which I loved at the time as well, but didn't give me that perfect rifle feeling that the Tikka has. The only downside of the tikka is I wish I could easily get an aftermarket stock like the LTR that fit the current bottom metal and TRG mags. I am looking into getting a Bell and Carlson fitted to it shortly.

The way I see it is if I were to buy a Remington 700 LTR today I would have to do the trigger, bed it, extended bolt knob, detachable magazine and if you want a muzzle brake, thread it, which is some of the fun in owning a Remington.

The tikka I bought came didn't need any of that, and an extremely smooth action out of the box.

IMO the tikka hands down. Buttery smooth action, and shoots so well! Expensive? Yes it is. But so are the Infiniti's I drive because to me and the wife, they are worth the little extra they cost for the fit/finish and comfort.
Its personal prefence. I love Savage rifles and have owned many of them. Will continue to do so. Remmys too but I'd use anything else before I get another one. Why? Its hard to give a quantifiable reason.

Personal preference.

Would you still do the trigger job even if it comes with 40x trigger? The reviews are good about 40x.

We have a little joke in our family...when it comes time to dish out the ice cream, we always have three flavours and you get to choose between Neapolitan, Neapolitan and Neapolitan...and then the kids all start giggling. Dumb I know but the kids love it. Now, back on topic...choose one of the above!

Any CGN sponsors that have the CTR 308 in stock? I would also be willing to put a deposit for a stainless one.

I'm still on the fence btw a Varmint HB SS and a CTR (stainless or not).

It's a mystery to me and everyone in the gun industry that I've asked. The CTR is such a screaming value it's insane.

.

Have to agree, the CTR is by far the most rifle I have ever bought for the dollar invested, bar none. This one's a winner!

Can you tell I'm pretty happy with mine?

I am thinking of a NF optic. Any suggestion?

It looks like everyone is in favor of Tikka instead of Remington despite how they are used widely in LE world.

Yep NF will get the job done.

Just because Remington is used by LE it doesn't mean its the best choice for you.

How's NF compare to Leupold optics?

In term of chasis selections, how much improvement you get when you go with Cadex or AICS instead of MDT? Cadex's or AICS's chasis cost 4x then MDT's chasis.

Not sure about Leupold. No one that I shoot with has one. I'm pretty happy with my NF and Sightrons.

If your serious about your rifle shooting tiny groups then have a look for a chassis that's possible to bed the action. Any of the tube gun style will be tricky.

Tikka's plastic stocks don't seem to be too bad but I think there is a little room for improvement. With the Remington and its HS stock (properly bedded) I honestly don't think you will get any improvement with a chassis.
