Hi there, does anyone have any experience with the Remington 700P TWS Package? I am thinking of picking one up and I have not been able to find any reviews on them.

Basically the package consists of the following:
Remington 700P 26" barrel 12" twist in .308 with an aluminum bedding block.
Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm Scope
Harris Bipod

I'm interested in getting into precision shooting and am hoping this package would be a good starting point for me.

I've had one for a few years. It was actually my very first firearm purchase. Same set-up then as now. I found the rifle as/more accurate than I can shoot ( nice to have a learning curve where you know any fault is more likely with yourself than your equipment ;) ). The Pelican case is of course top notch; the Harris Bipod is a good height for shooting prone, but not high enough for use while sitting upright as some may do. The Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 X 40 is very clear and easily up to the task out to 200 yards, likely more ( 200 yards being all I've shot to at this point). The strap included with it is kind of silly, its a very narrow strap and combine that with a heavy rifle .... its not a joy to carry. Not that hunting is a primary use for a 700P, but I did drag it out when I first started hunting with a buddy, as it was all I had to bring.

The rifle is very accurate, I easily achieved 1 ragged-hole groups at 100 right off the bat once I'd dialed in the scope, which was bore-sighted quite reasonably at the factory. 200 yard groups fell around an inch or under. Break-in I used Federal blue box for about 80 rounds, then switched to Hornady 168 Match moly ammunition. I wound up strapping a Leupold Mark 4 Tactical 6.5-20 x 50 on it and have only had it out twice since. Lots of other firearms to shoot, a new house build and most importantly my infant son get priority on my time lately.

Looking at my 2008 Wholesale Sports catalog, they list the package at 2899.95, but thats likely a long gone price by now. You could phone them and ask, their item # is 223975. The same catalog has the R-15's on the next page at $999.95, and those are up another $350 most places I've seen.

I've moved it's original VX-III over onto a .270 WSM Winchester Model 70 that I have.

I may be interested in parting with mine, but I have to mull over the optics situation. I'm hedging on which scope to include with it. If you are interested which scope would you prefer? I gotta dig through my reciept pile on the Mark 4.

I forgot to mention the trigger is quite light compared to my regular hunting rifles, and that the buttpad on the stock doesn't absorb jack-squat for recoil, its more like a someone cross-sectioned a truck tire and popped that on. I question why they don't put on a Supercell pad, but then I rationalize that they consider the 'Police' line as a heavily used implement and figure a soft pad will get torn up with heavy use.... perhaps. My rifle preceded the Supercell pads, but not the R3's.

Understand that there is no difference in accuracy with any Remington 700, therefore, in terms of its "precision" potential, you may be further ahead to spend less on the gun and more on the optics, since 10X will run out of steam pretty quick for long range shooting.

I started with a 10x and quickly moved to increase the magnification.

Shouldn't be hard to find a buyer for the scope though if you want to upgrade.

I know what you mean by the recoil pad on the P stock. I have the same stock design on my 5R and you're right it is very stiff. Unlike the LTR where limbsaver recoil pad is great.

I was thinking of getting a good recoil pad installed on the 5R but i'm not sure what kind of effect it would have on the LOP.

Plus with the weight of the 5R and even more for the P vice the LTR (24" vs 26" vs 20" bbl) it would kind of balance it out.

It is still .308 though so the recoil is still manageable nonetheless.

Do you have any idea if the TWS package saves you money on any of the components?

Note when adding up the package price as separate components, we can now get Pelican 1750 cases at Bass Pro for $229! Its a full $100 less than at WSS. They have the "Redhead" logo on them, but its a Pelican....black or tan.
