Remington 870 Police Max .. feeding issues.

I just brought this brand new gun home from the post office tonight. It seemed to cycle fine with no ammo and just pumping the pump. Anyhow I installed a mesa 8 shot side saddle on it. I then loaded up some snap caps and checked its cycling. It would jam every other round or not pick up the round at all...

So i figured maybe i had the side saddle on to tight, so i loosened it, but it was still jamming. So i took the side saddle off altogether and tried cycling the snap caps. Still same thing.

So i cleaned it, lubed it up. I would cycle 6 fine, then I tried another 6 and it would jam up or not feed at all.

Needless to say im not happy. WTF! My 590 worked great, and i installed side saddles on that one too. Wish i never sold it now. Do i have a lemon? Anybody else have these issues? Im calling Wolverine tomorrow to see what they got to say. I know they got a gunsmith on the payroll.

Try cycling real shells through it at the range. And don't hang a bunch of crap on a gun you've not even fired yet (unless you just want a pretty toy and don't actually plan on shooting it). Otherwise I'll take if off your hands for 35% off. :p

Ditto on the real ammo advice. Our 870s have all kinds of issues with dummy rounds but run like clockwork with live stuff. Also, what do you mean by 'jam'? There are basically only three stoppages with the 870. Without knowing what the stoppage WAS, we can't help you.
 
Check your action bars are seated properly and is engaging the shell release on the mag tube. Sometimes the bars can slide into the receiver but just miss engaging the shell release. If you take your action bars off check them to see they are not slightly twisted or any issue with the right bar (specifically the ejection port side). When you reassemble the action bars to receiver do the ejection port side first then the other... But you probably already new that.
 
Ok i said snap caps for the safety sallys but i did use live rounds. What i mean by jam, is when i try to cycle the round it jams up between the bolt and that lifting thing, it wont go forward, i have to force it, and other times it wont pick up the round. Im not a gunsmith, not sure what you guys need to know, not an expert at all, just a novice.

You may as well be speaking in spanish! I dunno wtf your talking about. Im a newbie, have been more of a handgun guy. Dunno what to do here, its a new fuking gun. Theres no way i screwed it up installing the side saddle, its two easy, its just two pins that you pop out, i followed the directions to the letter. The gun cycles like butter without any rounds, but with rounds, something is causing a jam or something.

ya fuk that, this is and seems like it will be a sweet deal, if it starts to cycle properly.
 
i tried to get a mossberg 500 yesterday, but theres a shortage, and the dealer convinced me to get a new 870, the 870 jammed in different places of the action and double fed somehow as well. took it back and they reproduced the issue it at the store several times. They didnt even try to repair it, just offered me another new one... i upgraded to benilini nova instead. in my noob paws, it seems alot more solid. looking forward to firing it this weekend.
 
Are you cycling it hard? Perhaps short stroking it? What happens if you put a dummy round in and cycle it as hard as you physically can?

there are no dummy rounds, i said that to appease the safety sallys. I mean when it jams i have to force it hard to get the round in. I dunno ill go shoot it and see how it behaves under real recoil.

Ill say one thing, so far for the price its a piece of junk. Fuk my mossy 500 works better.
 
Outcast's advice is solid, but I wouldn't expect that kind of problem on the Police version-on an Express yes. Police versions cost more because there is more man-hours put into fit and finish and better parts quality in certain areas.

The three stoppages are: a) shell under the carrier (the lifter thing)- solution: rack it hard.
b) shell in mag backwards- it happens, youtube it to see how to clear it; it's hard to describe the 'push, pinch, pull' without demonstrating it; and c) double feed. solution: rack it hard, roll out the shells.

It sounds like you are short-stroking it, at least on the fail to feed any- but worst case scenario is Outcast's. With a shottie, you have to be the bigger bully. Run the slide with authority back till it stops, the punch it forward all the way (a possible reason it 'jams' with the shell partially lifted.)
 
I would take it to the range or somewhere safe to shoot. Even though it's winter I'd lube it heavily with something light and slippery like G36 spray or spray WD-30. Load it and then cycle it like an 870 should be cycled.........HARD, like you're trying to break it hard.

Even if it jams the first couple of times I'd try to keep cycling it. If it doesn't smooth/loosen up after that, send her back to the seller.

G96 is exactly what i used. I just find it bad that a preimum shotgun doesnt cycle. Fk i got a mossy 500 that has never failed. Some US manufactures are going down hill, but unitl i cycle some live ammo, ill sit still.

dude im 6 ft 300lbs, ya a fat fuk, i dont cycle anything week or short. Live fire will be the test, which ill try soon. Other thing was sometimes i had to fight to squeeze the last round in the tube. The gun feels amazing, if i get it to shoot right its gonna be great.
 
For the mag capacity thing try removing the extension and reinstalling it with the correct tightness. My brother bought an 870p and it had problems with the extension being on too tight from the factory. Maybe he'll chime in if he sees this.
