Hey Guys,

Just bought a Remington 870 tactical Express shotgun. It came with a "rem choke tactical tube". Looks like this;

Does anyone have one of these or know about them? I understand it's a breaching tool, what kind of choke would it be? Full choke? Practical or not it looks badass, and it sold me on the gun. I just bought it as a range toy. I searched this forum and couldn't find anything

Wrong section, dude, that's why you couldn't find any info. Move down one or your going to get told how foolish you are for wanting one of those impractical show guns, that have no purpose. :D

It's cylinder choke. Remove it, and you'll see it labelled as such.

Kinda neat looking, but useless. Doesn't really tame recoil, and how much breaching are you doing? That's what I thought.

Sell it for $60 in the EE -some mall ninja will buy it.

Believe it or not, some of us youngsters appreciate the asthetics of military fire arms! Thank you for the info! Feel like a goof for not taking it out and checking.

I'll crawl back to the other forums now, and leave you guys with your blood hounds and pipes and what not. :p

Dude - I AM a youngster. What military do you know of is using the RemChoke breaching tool?

I fully support your right/need to own the breaching attachement. All I'm saying is - it's sharp, big, and pointless. To each his own! Now, back to my corncob pipe...

I have one on my desert recon, I don't think its worth taking off and paying $50-60 for a different choke when this works just fine.

I got 2 Remchokes for $50 shipped off the EE. I was told they are new and sure look it. I'd also like to know what you'd consider to be "just fine". My patterns are much tighter with an actual choke in place. Though I suppose that wouldn't be a concern if you are just blasting away for the fun of it...

I shoot slugs and buckshot out of it. I have also shot skeets with it. It's not the greatest but it works. i The OP said he just wanted it for a range toy, not hunting.

I have another shotgun that I use for birds. Different guns for different purposes.

My Mossberg 930 tactical has one. It's a real nuisance. It snags in a soft guncase, and scratches anything it touches. I was told it was designed to allow you to press the muzzle against a deadbolt lock, and blow out the center of the lock.

On the mossberg, it prevents the installation of a magazine extension, so it only holds 4 rounds. It probably wasn't the best choice for a bear gun, unless I can hold the muzzle against his forehead.

Actually thinking about I would like a nice tight pattern for target shooting, put a nice big whole in some cardboard. I'll have to try it out sith some different shot and see, I'm pretty new to shotguns, mostly shoot handguns. I bought a box of #4 shot to start.

This shotty came stock with a 2 round extension. I'd #### my pants twice if I ever came that close to a bear.

With 7 rounds of any respectable load you are going to be fine. #4 can go either way. if that #4 buck or #4 birdshot? That aside my preferred load (3" 15 pellet 00) went from 16" at 25m to less than 8" (average). I would call that an improvement!

Im assuming its bird. It doesn't say 'buck' anywhere. Oh well, gotta start somewhere. I'm sure it'll be fun to shoot for a first time even if it doesn't give the pattern I want. Got plenty of time :)

That is a great mindset. If it goes bang then :D I imagine you have birdshot though. #4 buck is usually a hell of a kicker. On par with most any slug of comparable loading and well ahead of pretty much any other standard buckshot load IMO.

Update: I just bought this out to the range, replaced the tactical choke with a modified choke, put some 2 3/4 inch #4 shot down range, got a pretty tight pattern, shredded some cardboard nicely. Recoil was actually pretty tame I was surprised, no sore shoulder. 870 has such a smooth action, sounds so cool, shoots real nice, LOVE IT! I havn't shot anything out of the tactical choke yet, next time at the range i will for sure
