Hello All;

I just picked up a couple of boxes of the 3" Accutip Sabot Slugs and wondered if any of you have had any experience with them yet. We have a shotgun-only season here and I figured that 385g at 1900fps should be more than adequate to perforate some deer. I found the polymer tip to be an intriguing idea and thought it may improve stability and accuracy. Have any of you had a chance to try them out yet? I'm going to the range to test them out this weekend (which in my Mossberg 835 means I'll have a sore shoulder by the end of the weekend!).

At $20 for 5 shots, all I can say is ouch!

I hear ya!

Can-Tire had a sale a few years back with federal sabots on clearance for $6 a box.Because I had my gun sighted in with these, and it shot well I bought the last 28 boxes in stock.Kills deer just fine at a $14 a box saving.

please post results when you are done.
I was thinking of getting some myself.

Good luck have a good weeekend

Definitely will kill better and be 10x more accurate at extended ranges (think cornfields). In tight-quarter brush shooting, the sluggers will do the same work. All depends on the area you're hunting. "Shotgun only" areas are not always close shooting.

Same situation as trying to take a longish shot with a heavy round nose bullet in a rifle. Pointed/spitzer bullets will always fly better and further.

That said, you need a rifled barrel to shoot these.

Thanks a lot for the thoughts so far. The barrel is fully rifled and with the hunting area at the farm, I have had to make a few longer shots. That's why I thought I'd try these slugs. Hopefully they're worth the price. I will update on their performance first thing after the weekend.

apparently the new line-up of slugs on the market not only kill em dead, it will take care of their ancestors too!!!!!!!!
The next generation of slugs should just vaporize em and we'll be done with it.

No different than everyone using TSX and TTSX, Etip, and all the new fangled rifle bullets. I'm sure all the old prospectors out west and up north used them 100 years ago too.;)

Its called technological advancement. We have it, why not use it? I don't see any advantage to living in the past. If you or anyone else prefers to use inferior equipment, I'll trade everyone an old musket for your tikkas.:)

Don't mind rockin' the boat a little do ya?:stirthepot2: Or should I say shakin' the ole wagon til the wheels fall off:D

These are some great slugs atleast for my 870 with 24" pinned and shimmed mossberg barrel. Im getting 2" and under at 100 yards. Im hitting an 8x8" target 3 out of 4x at 180 yards free hand, and feel confident at taking deer out to 150 yards when using my range finder.

REMINGTON ACCU-TIP SLUG

Bring a cleaning kit to the range. The plastic may adhere to the barrel affecting your next few shots. Should only need one shot hunting.

I may pick some up but $20 (five shots) for testing is painful, but worth it in the long run.

Lee, does Al Simmons have any of these yet?

Was out on the range on Saturday and I am impressed with the Accutips. I was using Remington Copper Solids as comparison and they gave me approx. 3" groups at 100m. The Accutips decreased the grouping to 2", so it seems that the Mossberg preferred them a bit. I don't know if the difference is significant in terms of hunting conditions, but they seemed to work well. There wasn't much noticeable difference in recoil. Whether they're worth the additional price......?

Sounds good, lets hear how they work this fall as i am currently using the rem 2 3/4 1900fps core-lokt ultra and have had some great results at the range and on deer, I started out using the copper solids and then move to the core-lokt's and am thinking about trying out the accu-tips but i have over 20 boxes of the core-lokts left so i will not be switching(as long as i like their performance) until my stock is depleted.

I tried the remingtons they were nice I managed 3''s at 100yds free hand. The best performance I have got from a slug out of my fully rifled mossberg 535 is the winchester SSP123 385gr saboted nosler partition. I managed 1.75'' 3 shot group at 100yds with these with all 3 in one hole.

I think I saw some 2 3/4" there last week. I picked up my 3" at Lebarons mississauga.
