Remington is now loading the 9.3X62.

If Canada imported some "bullet proof" Cape Buffalo or Great Kudu then I would be in line to buy one but my 35 Whelen with 250gr NP bullets is plenty a match for anything that walks in NA. Two years ago I shot large 350 lbs cattle chasing lean, lean black bear and he folded so quick he plowed the soil with his nose! And that was with my Win mod 88 in 358Win. This "hot" 9,3x62 cartridge is another "must have" hot air gimmick while WSMs and Ultra Magnums sales are slowing down....

I don't know where the specs of 2440 fps came from, but from what I've seen, there's nothing extraordinary with the Remington offering!

The velocity is standard 2360 fps... not 2440 (it's the energy at 200 yrds)

Ballistics are;

B.C. .400, 286 grains Sp Core-Lokt

Muzzle 2360 fps (3536 ft-lbs)
100 yds 2155 fps (2948 ft-lbs)
200 yds 1960 fps (2440 ft-lbs)
300 yds 1777 fps (2005 ft-lbs)

http://www.remington.com/pages/news-and-resources/ballistics.aspx

But if you go in the "comparison" section, then the velocity at 400 yds is 1451 fps and suddenly, at 500 yds, they show 2360 fps... I am guessing it's when the Turbo goes "On"....

Federal also offers three 9.3X62 loads using Barnes and Swift A-Frame bullets.

I thought I had gotten the 2440 fps and 3536 ft lb muzzle figures from the Rem website. Next time I will snip a screenshot and post it along with the text. :)

Not a thing wrong with 2360 fps. It has worked for 105 years.

The velocity figures in the comparison chart are a hoot. Obviously the 500 yd figure is the MV and should be at the top of the velocity chart, and all the other figures were bumped up one spot. Good catch!

CDL SF ltd edition maybe?

Not for 2012 - that one is in 7mm RM.

A modern factory 9.3x62 at a reasonable price would be nice to see along with the .270's and 30-06's on everybody's store shelves...

CZ, Tikka, Ruger, Zastava and Sako all chamber the 9.3x62. Mind you the Sako isn't exactly "reasonably priced".

Your .35 Whelen could handle Cape Buffalo and very easily deal with Kudu - in fact it is a slight weaker copy of the 9.3x62, the latter has been around for over 105 years.

The 9.3x62 is certainly not another "must have hot air gimmick" - I agree that the wsm and ultra mags are just that. I am happy that the cartridge is being re-introduced to NA hunters. You don't need blazing velocity and huge powder charges to take game efficiently. Perhaps this will teach the wsm generation a thing or two.;)

Ted,

I supposed you've been misled somehow. Their spec tables are not very friendly user. And worse, they show errors.
I did not try them, but from my experience the performance of metric ammo loaded in the US usually is quite anemic. Well, I won't be a dirty tongue until I have chronos of it.

As for price, the Federal/Barnes TSX boxes sells for about 80.00 $ / 90.00 $ US for now. 90.00 $ to 95.00 $ for the A-Frame. The Banded Solids are over 120.00 $ US.
The Remington seems to vary from 35.00 $ to about 45.00 $...

Hornady, Barnes, Sellier & Bellot, PPU, Norma and Lapua are also availlable for those who don't reload. Cheapest alternative is still from PPU.

Killed that bison of mine dead enough If nothing else the Remington ammo will be a great source of fireformed brass, though I'd prefer Winchester brass. The Lapua brass I'm using now is great stuff, but if I were just getting started I'd probably do a bunch of practice with the Rem or Hornady stuff and handload from there.

Appreciate that, Baribal.

I know I didn't just dream the figures up. Read it wrong, or perhaps that was another one of the errors, and was corrected from the time I originally posted over two weeks ago. Did you, by any chance bring the error on their comparison page to Remington's attention?

Regardless, a 286 gr at 2360 still generates plenty of power, over 3500 ft lb, with reasonable recoil, and kills like a 375 H&H. I am fond of telling folks that it is a 375 with five in the magazine. :D

Ted

PS: I am continuing to reduce the herd, and have gone from four to three, and will be selling one more 9.3X62 if anyone is interested.

I'd sure love to see a custom shop model seven mannlicher. Of course, the model seven is a short action, but, maybe if they stretched it out a bit, but kept the weight savings on the back end of the action maybe....

John Barsness and Sisk came up with the 9.3 BS, which is the .350 Rem Mag necked up. Peformance is pretty much identical to the 9.3x62
