Does anyone have any information on these rifles? I did a Google search but it almost appears there is no information available on this .22 caliber rifle. I have one that was given to me as a kid by my great grandfather. I still have the original box and fired it only a couple of times when I was young.

Rem 525

These were made in Brazil for Remington, modelled after the Remington 511 but not on the same level of quality. These were an economy rifle, and were also sold here in Canada as the CIL 171 I believe, but I could be wrong on the CIL model number. I`ve had a few over the years, decent South American hardwood on them, decent shooters, but two I owned actually had the front dovetailed sight machining leave a light depression in the rifling in the barrel. I`ve bought and sold them in the $50 to $125 range. They are a decent starter rifle, and great for shortening barrels and stocks on them as they have no value outside of being a shooter. All things aside, I prefer the Remington logo on the barrel over the CIL stamp - just reminds me of other rifles in the stable. Cheers.

When Remington stopped production of the 511 they sold the machinery to make them to a company in Brazil. This company made them and sold them under their own name and also sold them as "house brand" to department stores and resellers like CIL. Eventually Remington started distributing them in the US as the Remington 525.

The action is flat bottomed and relatively massive which is good. The triggers were heavy, long and hard to do much to improve.

They're a solid, basic rifle based on a good design. I agree, not worth more than $125.

Thanks for the reply guys. I wasn't sure about it as I couldn't find any info on it. It's been sitting in my gun safe for about 15 years. I have fired maybe 5 rounds out of it but will let my girlfriend hunt with it this fall.
