Remington Model 7 Predator

Getting back to the Model 7 Predator lol, it sounds like a 62 grain bullet is my max. The bolt is surprisingly stiff closing and opening ( with empty chamber, moving bolt forward and back is fine but closing and opening is stiff). Not smooth at all, is this due to new and unfired or is this the new Remington fit and finish i keep hearing about?

That's not normal. Are there any marks on the bolt?
Do you have bases on it?
Is it as rough when you remove the front action screw?

I have not noticed any marks on the bolt. Put leupold bases on it several days ago but the problem existed before that. I read about the front action screw so i loosened it off and no change. Im puzzled
.

Just bought a Remington Model 7 Predator in .223, 1 in 12 twist. Have not shot it yet and waiting for a scope, anyone own one and what are their opinions on Model 7 or Predator specifically? What would be good round choices with 1 in 12 twist?

I installed a Bushnell 4-16 Elite AO DOA600 on mine with Talley Low's I Have NOT shot mine yet :p: confused: I'm going to try some Handloded Barnes TTSX 50 gr ers :) RJ

So Fud..... have you had it out yet? Hoping you are liking it so far

No I have not had it out yet, plan on taking it to a local gunsmith for trigger job, glass bed and free float barrel. Have him look into the bolt stiffness as well. Probably wont punch some holes until September some time.

I have had very good luck with a variety of flat based 55 grain SP's in a lot of 1-12 twist .223 Remingtons. I very much like the handling of the model 7 predator rifles and if I stumbled across the right deal on one with a 1-9 twist or .22-250 Remington I'd be all over it.

Just remember the 22-250 Remy is a 1-14 twist . RJ

Had to return the rifle to Remington for warranty work, burr in chamber was scratching all the casings and had 5 or 6, out of 28 fired, extremely hard to extract after firing. Cant wait to get it back for trigger job and glass bed and free float barrel if possible.

Remington has decided to replace the rifle, late November or december. Apparently they are manufacturing a one time, limited production of the Model 7 predator. I'm guessing they had a manufacturing problem and have had many returned rifles?

I have received my new Model 7 Predator ( .223 ) from Remington and this one is a 1:9 twist. The old one was a 1:12 twist and I have some 40 and 45 grain ammunition that may not be best suited to this new rifle, any suggestions on .223 ammunition that would be best suited to a 1:9 twist rifle?

I have a model 7 predator in 204 Ruger but I kind of de-predator'ized it.

Wildcat stock, re-coated all the metal with Cerakote instead of the factory camo, and installed a Timney trigger which I ground down the shoe as it was way too wide for me.

53gr hornady vmax will be a great option with good b.c.
I've become partial to 40gr bullets as fast as I can pump them lately.
