remington model 8/81

As stated the Rem. 8/81 are awkward and heavy to some, but of all the 35 Rem. chambered rifles I've had my old Mod. 8 is by far the most accurate and I don't know why. I have had a Mod. 141, a Mod. 760, and a beautiful Marlin 336 all 35s, but the old Mod. 8 will shoot rings around them.
It doesn't get used much anymore, probably a couple times in deer season if I'm walking around in the bush, but its still as accurate and dependable as ever. At timber hunting distances that 200 gr. round nose slug is hard to beat as is that quick second shot if needed....

I've wanted a model 8 in .35rem for a long time. I saw a Model8/81 recently but in .32rem and the guy wanted a bundle for it.

You're right about them selling high, at the gun shows over the last couple years I've noticed the 35s in good or better condition selling for $ 800 or more.

There was a really nice Mod. 81 with checkered stocks, looked as though it had never been fired and I'm sure it was in 300 Savage at the last Kamloops Gun Show in April.
If I remember correctly it was about $ 1000, gone the next day.
There were several Mod. 8s for about $ 600 to $ 700 all in varying condition.
Aside from that one though I can't recall seeing the 300 Savage chambered ones in recent years.

I just watched the second half of Bonnie & Clyde where Frank Hammer used one to shoot Buck Barrow. My dad hunts with one, too.
