Remington Model14 1/2 in 44-40

A fella in our camp has one he had the barrel set back, and re-chambered for 44 mag. He has shot a pile of deer with it, and he has never complained about it, so I it asume to work good.

Ny father-in-law used one for years till he picked up the older style Ruger .44 mag auto. It would be an excellent hunting rifle if you handload, the 44-40 is downloaded to enemic pressures to suit older weak rifles. Handloaded up to reasonable pressures it would very near equal a 44 mag.

thank you guys here is a pic.

CCIC,

Looks like you found a hum dinger of a tang sight for your 12C. What make is it?

Rumors fly amidst my great uncle's that their father had a 14 1/2 but in 38-40. None of them can agree, nor do they know where it eneded up.

Great to see the old Remingtons getting used.

Thanks for the tip Senior,I do not reload but I know someone who could fix me some loads.

That will explain why I've not seen one before!
I finally landed a fairly nice 12A but the seller failed to mention that the finish on the butt was crazed. Other than that it look like new.

By the way I just loved your hunting pictures,Thanks for sharing
