Hey guys, I just got my hands on a disassembled nylon 66. I spent last night and a few beers figuring out how to put it back together. It doesn't work though. When I rack the action, the sear won't lift up to hold the striker. I found a new sear and sear spring and installed those, the sear still won't lift.

It's like the spring has no power to lift the sear. I took the old spring and installed it a little differently so it had a ton of pressure on the sear but that just made it impossible to rack the action as the sear would be permanently up.

I guess my question is this: when the action is racked, what part interaction causes the sear to tilt up?

Oh yeah whoever designed this thing was a schizo.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I tried both nylon 66 manuals, I do have it assembled correctly. Maybe I should look at some new disconnector springs as well.

It has probably been twenty years since I have had to re-assemble a dis-assembled 66. I figure, if I play my cards right, I can slip by another twenty and I should be safe! Regards, Bill.

I figured it out, I don't know what I did differently, but now the sear moves up no problem. When I put the metal cover on, if I tighten the rear screw, the trigger doesn't work, it's jumping out of the groove in the disconnector. I'll just leave the screw out. Thanks guys!

Send it to Eileen Higgens (Saskatoon Gunsmith Shoppe) she is the only person I know who likes them and thinks there easy.Kerry hates them and when someone brings one in in a bag ,He tells them they have to wait until his wife comes in to work:D.

I got it working. What a nightmare to assemble.

That they are...

You are lucky all the pieces were there... the first one I did 40 years ago came in a bag and unknown to me a couple of small pieces were missing... these always seem to me to come with a story... 'I lent it to a friend and he thought he would take it apart to clean it' or 'my kid did this'...

Can you imagine the mind that designed this rifle?

Is it a green one? A gunsmith took mine apart and never got it to shoot again. It got sold off in pieces. To bad it was great gun...

for god sakes, don't- the gods may NOT smile upon you twice- this and the m93 norinco are 2 guns that should NEVER be taken apart- and there's no need - the barrel comes off with the screw, and the rest of it is self lubricating- i got mine in 69, and that barrel is the only thing ever to come off- that and dummies lose the charging handle

This one wasn't working, that's why it was taken apart. If it fires properly it won't be coming apart again. It's a brown one with the white checker.

I have never been so frustrated putting something together, and I worked at ikea when oli was 18 assembling their showroom furniture.

The Brown ones are nice. If I get a chance to buy a green one again I will. Great gun, when working right very reliable and quite accurate.

I have two of the 77's (mag fed). Bought them for my kids as they are such a light rifle. Kids are grown, but now the grandkid needs a shooting iron, so I guess he'll get one of them. I tore both of mine down to see how they worked a long time ago, and yes they are a bear to put back together. - dan
