Elbow placement is critical when sitting/kneeling.You don't want any "bone to bone" (don't even go there..... )contact.

The "fleshy" area behind your elbows is want you want to be resting on your knees.SKBY.

SKBY is dead on correct & I neglected to mention this..

The TIS M24 sling is the cats hindquarters for field shooting positions. The Leather 1903 slings are also pretty good when used as a "hasty" sling (one wrap around the left arm....).

For rests, Bag, bipod or rucksack (TAG makes a cool looking sniper Ruck with a removable rest).

SKBY.

Not to say your wrong, But I did a small arms coaching course and they were like bone on bone, any thing fleshy will twitch. I found 64 Pattern ruck was the best, place the rifle between the bag and valice.

Read up any of the sniper/shooting type instructional books (Ultimate Sniper, etc.) and they all say no hard to hard contact points. Recoil will tend to make the rifle/elbows bounce with hard to hard contact. You want the rear off the elbow resting off the front area of the knees.

If you hold your postion tight there is no "twitch" with the fleshy bits.......

This is also the way Longshot (Multiple winner of the BCRA Service Rifle Championships) instructed us in his Mini clinic.

This way does work.........;)

just like that soft to hard but in that picture my hand is on the wrong side of the sling:redface:

shooting like this helps soak up alot of the recoil

Really? I always thought (and read) that you wanted bone on bone, as the muscle will not tire or twitch (i.e. when shooting prone).

Is this an LTR only shooting comp. or can I play with my HWSNBN Dakota precision tac rifle? As far as bone to bone.....or flesh to bone....or what ever, as I've been taught Skullboy has it pegged, but it really comes down to what works for you. I think there are laws about discriminating against those bone to bone kinda guys.:p :p

anyone can shoot this match

Well if all you remy guys don't mind being beaten by a savage, can I play?

I like the idea of online honour-code scoring competitions! You're right, there should be a thread specifically for this kind of thing.
