Hey Jamie I did hot get a target email . If you sent it let me know.
I would try to shoot it on sat If I can , between coyote hunts.
Nice shooting .
when you said huns head Ithought the big one.
When we do our sniper championship we shoot one cold bore shot at
600m on the full size no score rings just hit or miss.

Nice shootin Tex! You get that new glass on and it should look like your sitting across the table from old Herman there.

:D Don't get me started! At 9 power my crosshair covers most of the smaller targets! I couldn't even see my holes! I hate when I can't find the hole :dancingbanana: I can't wait to do it with the NightForce!:D

With proper care, a tight lock up and sane pressures, brass can last well over 50 reloads. You just need to anneal the necks every 4 to 6 reloads for max performance.

Jerry

Jerry I've heard of the term anneal used with black powder cartridges to harden the case if I remember correctly. I've never heard of it for Modern precision rifles. Would you be willing to start a thread explaining it and how the process works along with the pros and cons of doing it. I use Nosler match brass would it be worth taking annealing into considderation?

LRC, with my still recovering shoulder, I am the one looking for a handicap.

Actually, I am expediting my new Stevens coyote rifle in 223. The right cal for a tac fun shoot. going to start on load working ASAP.

Just finished bedding tonight and need to clean the packing grease out of the pipe. That is how new this rifle is.

Will be interesting to see how it shoots..

Annealing is for softening the necks. When we size fired brass, we work harden the necks. this leads to inconsistent tension and neck splits.

Annealing returns the brass to its ductile self. ALL brands of brass can benefit from annealing.

How much and how often is dependent on how much sizing you do and the alloy of the brass and the pressure the case is exposed to.

If you are able to reload your brass more then 6 times, annealing might be something to consider. LR BR shooters are now looking at annealing every few firings to ensure consistent neck tension.

Some really cool machines to do this. Think record player with torches. You do remember what a record is?

I am using the temp stick method which is a bit crude but seems to work ok.

Ok guys...I sent out a whole pile of targets....where are they??post them asap....

Jamie

I'm a bit of a p^$$y and haven't ventured to the range yet (too cold and too much snow). With any luck I will have mine posted on here by Friday.

*someday, I hope to be a man and grow a pair ... fingers crossed*

I'm using the downtime during the cold months to get my kit all together and sorted out. I'll shoot the next one. When does the actual 'shoot for score' match start? How much time between shoots? How many shoots in total? Maybe post a calendar with the events and dates. I not trying to make work for anyone just suggesting stuff to get this done. If a system is developed it makes the organizing easier next time around too.

My suggestions for what they're worth,
- One event per month, easy to remember and allows those who don't have access to a range or have work restrictions time to get out.
- If we have the schedule, targets, shoot descriptions ahead of time people can shoot multiple events for each range visit if they like.
- Shooting during the relatively warmer months will appeal to more shooters. I'm thinking April through September, 6 shoots total. Also allows time to organize this well. Maybe another fun event before then to get people into it.
- Have a closing date for submissions of targets, midnight on the last day of each month. Penalty for late submissions so that the laggards move their a**es.
- Submission standards when submitting targets with specific info. on who is submitting target ect., conditions, caliber, gun specs., ammo specs. Where/who to submit targets to. Scanned PDF of target would be my choice and info. label top right. Targets should have a scale printed on them to make scaling easy, also 8.5x11 for easy printing and distribution.
- Have an entree fee that goes toward prises, that way people have a vested interest in staying with it and some insentive to participate.
- Figure out some basic classes of rifle bolt/auto/vintage, something like that with a prise for each class and overall winner. Maybe a prize worst shooter (I'm thinking of myself here), like a shooting clinic or some coaching. For the Savage guy this will mean a trade in on a Remington :p .

Maybe put this all down in the form of a pdf book in the end so it's easily distributed.

That's just some brainstorming on my part.
