Remington vs Winchester

Over the years these two companies have brought out a lot of great Cartridges. Of the two who do you think "won the battle" and why? :yingyang:
 
Remington has had some fantastically sucessfull cartridges, butI htink Winchester gets the nod, wiht cartridges such as 30-30, 308, 300WM, 338 WM 270, and a line of short mags that are still being produced.:)

Both companies came up wiht some great cartridges, though.
 
I would say Winchester by a hair, i have never owned a winchester since like a crazzy fool sold a mint Model 70 pre 64 in 30.06 they made poor quality since that time, but sure brought out some great cartridges lately most the wsm are great, the Remington SAUM will die,

Sorry I should have stated it in the rules earlier wsm's and wssm's and rum's don't count.
 
Definitely Winchester because they were and still are great performing cartridges. The .270, .30-30, .300, .338 and .458 WM to name a few are still with us. Remington on the other hand always seems to be playing catch up(IE: 280 Rem and SAUMs to name a couple), sometimes they get it right 7mm RM though they can't seem to market themselves out of a paper bag.

That's so true the .280 Rem was such an awfull cartrige....;)

I question that the .280 Rem is not such a great cartridge for me, the .270win, was made famous Sports writer Jack Oconnor and when Rem brought out the .280 the cartridge was way underloaded so Remington could market them in the semi-auto and pumps, Jack Oconnor said a bolt action made up in .280 was a better cartridge, also the .277cal .270 win is just not as good a bullet as the .284 the 284 has a higher BC and lots of choice of bullets.
 
Versus

Who had to close their century + plant? :rolleyes: For sure Winchester in the really old days, but Remington wiped them of the table in the last 40 years. (IMHO) It's not who had the best first, it's who can last the longest through innovation and design. The only Win I own is my deceased Grandfathers 67. The bulk of my stuff is all Remington and Marlin.

Winchester has put their name on some real winners - 243, 270, 308, 300 win mag/300wsm, 338

Remington has also introduced some keepers - 223, 22-250, 25-06, 7mm-08, 280, 7mm mag, 35 whelen

both have had their share of disasters - 225 win, 6.5 rem mag, 284 win, 7mm WSM, 300 SAUM, 8mm rem mag (all great cartridges - just poorly marketed)

I hope winchester gets their feet under them again, I still need a classic stainless featherweight in 6.5x55 :D

Yes and no......

One of the best introductions from Remington was the .222. I wasn't based on any other case, totally new in all respects. At the time it was VERY popular with varminters and benchresters alike, and was the parent case for the .223, and we all know where that one went. I bet WW wishes they had that one.

Remington made legit a few VG wildcats over the years as well. 22/250, 35Whelen, 280 Rem, 257Roberts, 6mm Rem.

What is the 35Rem based on, 300Savage?

I think they've been relatively even in the R&D department. But Winchester markets their cartridges better. Fantastic cartridges like the .280 and .260 Rems....and how many rifles can you get them in? If Rem was on the ball, they'd have put the 7mm-08 and the .260 in the 750 autoloader, and the .280 in the CDL for more than one year.
