I ended up buying an XP100 "pistol" years back... I even sort of forgot I had it and found it hiding the other day.

Anyone else have one of these... I hear they're pretty accurate... mine is a 221 Fireball... I don't even know if you

can buy that ammunition for it anymore?

This is one strange looking bolt action single shot hand rifle! :)

Anyone have a story or experience with accuracy etc?

Thanks,

Garbal.

Remington still produces the ammo and brass is available from Nosler, Remington, and Lapua, although it ain't cheap!!!
You can make it out of .223 brass using a Redding trim die but you may have to ream the neck after sizing depending on which brand you use.

I have a T/C Contender in .221FB. Played with it a couple of times when I first bought it years ago but it got pushed to the back burner when other projects came along.

Still have the receiver from mine. Used to make great target rifles back in the day. - dan

We made a few rifles from them at Barotto Sports in the early 70's. Managed to de-register a few actions with the local RCMP... can't do that today... build a rifle from a registered XP100 and it is treated the same as before it was a rifle... the receiver is restricted... federal pricks they are.

Weren’t they made on a 600 mohawk action? Not much call for them up here, silhouette never really caught on, at least the real long range hand gun version

Never had one. Because of the bolt action, they were longer than some other designs, which for me made them less desirable. Attached is a picture of one of my Lone Eagles, this one in 30-06. On these the action is about 1 1/2" long, so quite a bit handier. That said, I still think the XP-100 is a really cool gun.

Yes, the first two I did I deregistered. Third one they wouldn't do it anymore. - dan

Sort of. They had a similar action, but with a solid bottom. And a forward trigger. Can't speak for where you live but silhouette was pretty big in Alberta at that time. - dan

.221 is a very neat and underrated cartridge.

That's very true. I've often been tempted to build a Fireball rifle. But then I come to my senses and stick with the very practical 223 Remington. If there was a tiny rifle action sized just right for the Fireball (in length and diameter) it would make sense.

I have one that I bought on the exchange a while back. Very accurate and 221 Fireball is a great cartridge for the gun. One of my favorite guns overall.

Everyone tells me they are as common as dirt but I have only seen 2 on the exchange since I joined here a couple of years ago, one of which I bought.

The last Lapua brass I bought was $100 for 100. I didn't think that was unreasonable for Lapua. Common calibers like 6.5 Creedmore or 243 brass run about $150 for 100 rounds.

Remington manufactured the SEVEN VSF in 17 FireBall & 221 FireBall about a decade ago.

The XP-100 single shot,600's,660's & XP-100R,673,Seven use the same bolt length w/ 2 bolt handle variances.

15 XP-100 S/S & XP-100R Repeaters in hand chambered in 221FB to 350 Rem Mag.

The 700 CP Chassis Pistols of current production shoot quite well, but are heavier than the center grip or rear grip/repeater models.

How much shorter and smaller diameter are they compared to a short action 700?

XP-100,600,660,673,XR-100,Seven,XP-100R receivers are the same diameter as a 700 action.
Rear receiver bridge length is shorter than a 700 & rear tang profiles very in length/shape for XP-100,600,660.

Aft of bolt lug to fwd surface of handle length-
L/A=5.215" receiver length=8.687"
S/A=4.375" receiver length=7.875"
Seven/XP100 & XP100R,600,660,XR-100=3.850" receiver length=6.660"

The 600 action, and it even has the barrel rib and sights like a 600. The 600 Mohawk was a later model re-using the 600 action.

Your thread reminded me that I still have mine, in the backend of the safe and hasn't seen any recent use. Got a Leupold handgun scope on it and off hand, I can't recall the power. I'll have to dig it out and put a few rounds through it to scare the 'spiders' out of the barrel. And, I have a Remington soft zipper case, marked Remington XP-100 that was available for it 'way back'. The last target I have was shot at 100yds using a Winchester 46gr HP pushed by a top end load of IMR 4227. 2 1/2" group.
