I have shot many animals with both my Remingtons, and if the animals could speak now, they would tell you that it was quick and painless due to the accuracy and function of the rifle, the shooter is OK as well. No problems with either of mine for 8 Years and running

Maintenance is probably a little above ordinary on mine though, because for me it is piece of mind to know that whatever rifle I would point at an animal will function %110 so they do not suffer or if I need to protect myself in the woods. Somy anwser is Remington 700's are a fine choice but select your model and caliber carefully. Good Luck!
